Now that people have returned from APHA and are at some level of recovery, I
would like to learn more from Michael Pejsach and others regarding the
proposed American Health Education Association (AHEA). This was a new idea to
me and I wonder who the "lifelong SOPHE" members are and where this ideas is
coming from and what it really means.
Like others I am a member of several health education organizations,
SOPHE (local and national) and AAHE, and the idea of one organization has
merit and warrants discussion on this list.
Meanwhile, it's membership time in the world of SOPHE, and I welcome
any PacificNorthwest based health educators (Alaska, Idaho, Oregon,
Washington, British Columbia) to consider PacificNorthwest SOPHE. Interested
in membership? Email to margoharris@htcs.com. Thanks!

Dr. Kathleen Roe at San Jose State University teaches a class called
Multicultural Communication for MPH students. The class was still
experimental
when I took it about 5 years ago and I'm sure many modifications haver been
made
since. You can reach her at (408) 924-2976. Be presistent as she is hard to
reach.

Thanks for your Friday inspirations! I look forward to my Friday pick-me-up
and
sometimes print them out to share with my colleagues at the Stanford Center
for
Reserach in Disease Prevention (SCRDP).

Is CWU in Ellensberg? I have Washingtom cousins ho went to school there years
ago and wondered if that's the same institution.

I teach part time at San Jose State University and I'm looking for a new
textbook for a Commuity Health Education undergraduate class that focuses on
community organizing and skills health educators need for practice. Any
suggestions?

Hello, My name is Geri Ann Laiacona. I am currently the director of a
substance abuse prevention program for 50 schools serving 9 counties and
approx. 12,000 students and their families. I have been in this work for over
eight years. The program revolves around peer programming, teaching training,
curriculum development and life-skills training for students, parents, and
teachers (Pk-12). I also consult with community organizations and schools
outside my program. I am a registered nurse with experience in critical care
and inservice education. I have a masters degree in health education that
focused on concerns around worksite health and stress management.

I am interested in information about possible career options at this time. I
am especially interested in hearing about positions that would involve staff
training, worksite health, or opportunities in higher education teaching or in
wellness centers, etc. I am willing to relocate, and consider any position,
though am especially interested in the North West part of the USA.

Thanks for your time and any information that you are able to send me.

If you missed the 1995 ASHA conference in Milwaukee, you missed a
wonderful time. Great sessions, great networking, wonderful people, and
awesome socials, especially that Saluki Social. Think about it. Only one
professional association is exclusively devoted to the health and well-being
of youth and school health programs. If that is your area of interest,
shouldn't you support ASHA through your membership and active support.

SW and Counselors...

I'm interested in knowing (and am quite serious about this)...under WHAT
circumstances does the government's right to have personal information
from my medical records (complete with identifying information) without my
express consent override my right to privacy?

I'd be interested in your comments....

And my apologies to those who have already received the original message.

Friends and Fellows,

On proving one's self:
I was just reminded of a day a couple of years ago when Arnold
Schwarzenegger visited our little gym in Seattle. Everyone was working
out and trying not to be conspicuous about noticing Arnold in our midst.

One fellow, however, was trying desperately to draw the attention of the
world champion. He was frantically and most sloppily attempting to
perform a set of dumbell curls with a pair of 60's in front of Arnold,
who was using a pair of 30's.

Finally, after much flailing and showing off, he spoke to the Master,
"Hey, Arnold!" (all eyes were upon him, all activity halted) "Why are you
using 30's while *I'm* using 60's"? he jousted.

Arnold calmly looked about the room and quietly replied in his Austrian
accent, "Because *I'm* Arnold Schwarzenegger, and I don't NEEEED to use
60's!"

The place roared with laughter--he couldn't have pin-pointed it better!

If this is a virtual community (a claim that any other time I might
question), then the following may be considered a sort of community activism.

Rather than just delete that "free subscription" or other ad, try this:
send the entire message, unaltered, back to the sender (or both senders if
there appears to be a company involved). If you want to be really polite,
include a message letting them know why you are responding in this way.

Consider the effects of such action if it were universal. If the several
hundred members of this list alone each returned their messages, the
advertiser's host computer would be crowded with their own junk mail. They
might get the message. I have tried this with incorrigible
advertisers/publishers at home too. The entire package -- envelope and all
-- are stuffed into the little postage-paid return envelope that is often
supplied and mailed back.

Junk mail is more than annoying. The advertisers costs are subsidized by
you and I: Bulk mailers pay reduced postage rates. There are environmental
health issues at question: Paper, including advertising, makes up the
largest portion of our solid waste. And there are privacy questions --
especially with regard to e-junk.

I have a doctoral student who is planning on pursuing research with
an audience of adolescents who have either a parent or a sibling who
is HIV+. She is seeking instrumentation that is specifically
developed for, and used with adolescents in the areas of social
support, stress, and depression. General instruments that have been
used widely with adolescents also would be of help. We know of some,
but are always impressed by what others are familiar with and have
used. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Subject: Updated info

Greetings fellow health educators:

It was nice to see so many faces at APHA (or should I say it's nice
to put faces with e-mail names). A few things...

1.) As indicated before the two conferences (APHA and ASHA), I
would like to invite individuals to share with us any of the
interested sessions, discussions, current events that you
may have had while attending the two conferences. I
would imagine that many of the HEDIR subscribers who didn't
attend would find this of interest.

2.) Also related to ASHA and APHA...if you found any interesting
session that gave handouts, or if you presented and would like
your handout available to all who couldn't attend or didn't attend
the conferences, please send it to me via e-mail at the
following address: KITTLE@SIU.EDU Keep in mind that if you
send it as an attached document, please send it via mime or binhex...
not uuencode. If in doubt, send it via ascii. You must send it
to KITTLE@SIU.EDU It'll be available on the e-mail home page around
November 15.

3.) From my discussions with many of you at APHA, many are not aware
that the directories are available on the world wide web. So, if you
have netscape (or something similar), you can get up to date copies
of the directories by tapping into the following address:

http://www.siu.edu/departments/coe/hedrec/HEDIR/Menu.html

please note that the address is case-sensitive

4.) Fourth (and finally), many of you indicated an up-to-date
copy of the directories. For most of this year I have indicated
that you can get weekly updates by tapping into the filemanager here
at SIU. It may be difficult for some to do, so I'm sending up to date
directories to all. If you don't need them, just erase them.

It was good seeing so many of you. Thanks for your input on
this system. Have a nice November.

Mark

Please call the position availability to anyone you think might be
interested and qualified.

Thanks.

This issue of the newsletter will not have a feature article. I am still
trying to receive permission to reprint 2 Associated Press articles (many
thanks to Nancy Faulkner for sending them to me! :), and since it's been
nearly two months since the last issue was sent, I didn't want to wait any
longer.
So, assuming that I'll receive permission relatively soon, I hope to send
out the issue #5 addendum within a couple weeks.

Thank you for your patience! :)

                                   ----

In issue #1, I mentioned that I came across a quarterly magazine called
"Survivor: A Creative Journal by Men and Women Survivors of Sexual Assault."
I am very happy to announce that I have (finally!) finished HTMLizing it and
it is now online at:

        http://www.cs.utk.edu/~bartley/survivor/survivor.html

Survivor Magazine is listed on the info page under the "Poetry" and
"Victims" sections. Many, many thanks to publisher Greg Barton for all his
help in putting Survivor online! :)

SAIP's section on Child Sexual Abuse has expanded quite a bit thanks to the
incredible efforts of Nancy Faulkner, M.S. (NFHV58B@prodigy.com). Nancy has
provided SAIP with lots of great information about her Sexual Abuse
Recognition and Non-Disclosure Inventory (SARANDI), as well as information
on determining if a child is being sexually assaulted and how to help
children get help. I urge everyone to take a look at Nancy's work--you can
find it listed on the info page under the "Child Sexual Abuse" section.

Cindy Burger (clburger@mother.com) notified me about her consulting

for women survivors of childhood sexual abuse, their friends and supportive
family members, and the professionals who help them heal. Its purpose is to
provide information, self-help, and support to women in recovery from

RECENT CHANGES/ADDITIONS TO THE SEXUAL ASSAULT INFORMATION PAGE
      ---------------------------------------------------------------

SAIP now has a poetry section! Many thanks to Nancy Faulkner and Survivor
Magazine for their contributions. :) If you or someone you know would be
willing to share their poetry, please send me mail.

I've also added sections for: Domestic Violence, University Resources,
Usenet Newsgroups, and Related WWW Resources.

Usage statistics for SAIP are now available at:
           http://www.cs.utk.edu/~bartley/cgi-bin/getstats/stats.html

SAIP now has a page listing online legal statutes--the URL is:

Many thanks to all those that have helped, and to Mark Gray for his page
on Sex Laws (http://www.cc.gatech.edu/grads/g/Mark.Gray/Sex_Laws.html)

I have made a few cosmetic changes as well--the page is best viewed with the
latest version of Netscape, but still looks ok under Mosaic or Lynx (well,
at least as far as i can tell :) If your browser displays the page in a
weird way, please let me know (include the name of the browser and the kind
of machine you use, please).

                                COMING SOON
                                -----------

I'm considering adding a "Requests" page to the info page, so that those
seeking information can reach a wider audience than just the newsletter
subscribers. Those interested should please drop me a note and let me know.
(I understand that some would rather not have their name, email, etc. posted
on the WWW, so I won't add requests appearing in the newsletters to the
"Requests" page unless specifically asked to do so)

I'm considering making the page multilingual--unfortunately my foreign
language skills (3 years of French and 2 years of Chinese) are rather
pathetic, so I'm on the lookout for expert translators (the usage statistics
suggest that I should begin with German, French, Japanese and Spanish) who
are willing to translate SAIP's documents for very little money (i.e. for
free :) If you or someone you know would be interested, please let me know.

Since the page is getting rather lengthy, I'm considering splitting it up
a bit, probably something like Yahoo. I'd appreciate any thoughts or
suggestions for a better format.

I am currently designing a search engine for the page (a nice practical
application for the Information Retrieval class I'm taking this semester :)
I hope to have it operational by December or January.

                               MY TWO CENTS
                               ------------

I had the unfortunate opportunity to watch part of "Saturday Nite Live"
on October 28th (for those of you not familiar with the TV show, it's a
weekly variety show on NBC that tries very hard to be comical, but as far as
I'm concerned, doesn't do a very good job, and hasn't for a number of
years). I've never been much of a fan of the show, but I ended up watching
the last half, and now I really regret it.

I was absolutely furious and disgusted after seeing a particular sketch
shown towards the end of the show. It involved a prison warden reprimanding
and firing a guard because he had been repeatedly "beaten and raped" not
only by other prisoners, but by other guards and even the warden himself.
(And it even went as far to suggest that victims enjoy it!) So not only was
it *extremely* tasteless, it just perpetuated the same old myths.

I was absolutely sickened to think that some people find rape comical, so
I wrote Lorne Michaels (SNL's producer) expressing my anger and disgust,
(including about 10 pages from a book detailing the facts about rape, and
prison rape in particular) and demanded an immediate, formal apology to the
entire viewing audience.

It'll be interesting to see if I even get a response--I must admit I'm not
expecting one.

Subject: Health curriculum infusion

Help!!

I received a call from a local high school teacher who is concerned
about discussion in his district (Beaverton OR) to implement their
health curriculum through an "infusion" model. The teacher (a PE
specialist) believes the move is an attempt by district administrators
to eliminate health education specialists at the secondary level.
Further, the PE specialists on the committee are endorsing this approach
since the district is also moving to eliminate many of their positions
as well. The concerned teacher is upset because some of these teachers
have demonstrated a history of limited interest, background and
motivation to teach health effectively in the past.

Here's the gist of my request:

Does anyone have any journal articles or published research that discuss
different models (and their effectiveness) for delivering health
education at the high school level?

Are there any documents that detail how infusion must be done to insure
that health education doesn't get lost?

Even if you are unable to identify specific documents that address these
questions, I would encourage any of you to respond to these questions
from a professional standpoint. I believe that the responses of
professionals in the field, particularly those responses based on
observations and experience, will also help to guide the curriculum
review process in Beaverton.

Thank you in advance.

Mark,
thank you for the directories. Yes, it would be good to hear comments from the
conference; ...increasingly more difficult to attend US conferences... I would
also like to know if the presented information also has been accepted for
publication in a journal and when it might be available. Thanks. Ansa.

Earlier this week, there was a post that described a part time health
educator's position at the University of Washington in Seattle. I
discarded it, only to discover a colleague is interested in the
position.

Would the author of that post please send the job announcement to my
colleague at jmg159@psuvm.psu.edu Thanks.

Dear HEDIR subscribers:

Does anyone know of scientific studies or journal/periodical articles about
these two topics?

1. The comparitive effects of marijuana and tobacco cigarettes on the
lungs; specifically how many cigarettes equal one joint.

2. The effects of marijuana on the reproductive systems of both males and
females, specifically teenagers.

I would appreciate any information.

Thank you.

Friends and Fellows,
I'm a day early as tomorrow is an important holiday. Let's all think of and
thank a veteran tomorrow.

It seems to me:
That our biggest challenge as academics and educators is
to remain humble enough to continue to learn from humble sources of
knowledge and wisdom. Most of the important things I've learned about
life I've learned from my dog.

I'll take her hiking, for instance, I'll be set on attaining the goal such
as the lake, the top of the mountain, maybe a big view at the end of the
trail. If I fail to acheive the goal, I'm disappointed.

My dog, on the other hand, is filled with puppy exuberance; she runs for
the sake of running, she plays, smells, hunts, and romps. Rain or mud
only make it that much more fun to her. EVERY trip to her is a great time.
She always arrives at the truck happy, refreshed, and pleasantly
exhausted. She licks my face and says, "Thanks Boss, that was our best
trip ever!" Good dog, >wise< dog!

Some highlights of lessons my dog has taught me:
1) Don't just stop and smell the roses--smell everything!
2) Always make time for a daily nap.
3) Love unconditionally and be loyale to those who love you.
4) (and remember) If it ain't big, wet, and sloppy--it ain't a kiss!

Sharing the Dream.

I know that I have never taken the time to tell you before, but I look
forward to your Friday WOWs (words of wisdom). I have a message board on
the wall outside my office on which I place a quotation every week. .
.something for students to "think about" as they walk by. I have frequently
taken something you have shared and subsequently shared it with our Aggies.
Thanks for taking the time.

  Dear Colleagues:

Our School Health Program's class at Western Oregon State College is
currently studying the interpersonal traits needed for successful school

(ie. CHES), what personal / interpersonal traits best facilitate
learning? For tabulation sake, what in your opinion are the top three?

Please respond ASAP. We will compile and publish a list for your

importance):

1ften note my "top 4 attritbutes" from my early publications.

"Top 4 Attributes of Those Who Teach Well."

facillates is vital to those it is shared)

2) Passion for the discipline (i.e., belief that what one
teaches is vital to those it touches)

3) Vision (as a futurist, I believe that this is crucial to those who claim
to "touch the future"

4) Actor/actress (demonstration of skills and talents to pay attention to
the audience and to enjoy the interaction of authentic teaching.

I would be most interested in wht other share with you. Please forward
your findings.

Since there has been renewed interest in the NOMINAL GROUP PROCESS and it
has been a question asked on the CHES examination, I thought I might
share this brief outline of the procedure for you. This outline was
developed from the wonderful lecture given by Dr. Bill Cissell to my
class several years ago. . .
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
for this discussion NOMINAL means "a minimal phrase or word
description
of ideas." GROUP means "a small to medium sized group of people from
4-10 people." PROCESS means "it is a step-wise procedure."
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Considerations: It has the advantage of providing for a lack of dominance
of the groupby verbal aggressive people. It is similar to
brainstorming. There is no criticism of anyone's ideas. It gives quiet
people opportunities to gain self confidence. It is the best use of the
Democratic process.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
STEPS:
1. Form group(s)- elect or appoint a recorder
2. Each person then lists five ideas they have related to the problem on
their own paper.
THERE IS NO CRITIQUE OF ANY IDEA BY THE INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP
3.(Use a blackboard or large piece of paper (flip chart) placed near the
group to list these ideas.
4. The recoder writes each person's nominal phrase on the blackboard or
paper for everyone to see.
5. Each group CONSOLIDATES their ideas by mutual agreement between each
party.
6. Each person within a group now ranks the five best ideas from "5"
being the best to "1" being th lowest.
7. The recorder then places everone's rankings by the idea and then
totals their sum. (5+4+2 etc.)
8. The five best (highest scores) are re-written on the paper or board.
9. If there is more than one group, then the leader is to conduct a
CONSOLIDATION between the groups and a new ranking is done.
10. ALTERNATIVES . . . list the highest ranked idea from each group . .
. or now list the highest three and either ask the group to meet again
for the final selection. Or obtain a consensus immediately about the
best idea.

A great way to involve everyone in the decision making process.

Try it - you'll like it.

Bret, this is an excellent idea. But I tried it and it was sent back to me
from Jean Harris (?) with an edu address and from the HEDIR with a note
saying "keep your junk mail." It was the advertisement about free long
distance calling. Any idea what happened?

I too have been trying to send the junk mail back to the sender. Sometimes
only the list serve address is posted. This morning I send the mail back
to sureshot@USA.PIPLINE.COM as listed on junk mail, but it was returned. I
would appreciate help in sending this junk mail back so we can stop the
spamming.

For those of you who have been having problems returning the junk mail, I
suggest that you really look at what is being sent to you. Often it
tells you where to send it in the middle of the message. It is NOT the
return address at the header. This is so that people who come up with
the solution that some of you have (namely, to return it to them) can't
easily do so. Wehave all run into similar problems, like when personal
replys to a general message sent over the Hedir, are returned to everyone
on this list. So pay attention to return addresses, CC lists, etc...they
are there for a reason. :-)

When I first saw this request I was interested and saved it because I
thought the time might come when we would face similar questions here. I
did not realize it would come so quickly. It seems we are seeing
comprehensive school health as the mechanism for "infusion" and the join
of both Health Education with Physical Education content in the process.
Physical Education very much wants in and wants to play a major role in
the comprehensive school health education movement. They are taking the
opportunity to move in this area because Health Education here is much
smaller in numbers and thus perceived to be open for pillage (my
perception). I wonder if any of your responses could be of help to us
here. Thank you for the time.

Subject: Junk Mail

Recently, there has been some discussion about sending "junk" mail
back to the sender. In theory that is a great idea..but in
reality it won't work. Most e-mail advertisers use a system
in which their system cannot receive messages but only send them. This
prevents people like us (who are peeved at them) from sending back
nasty memos. I handle it by sending a fax to them (if a fax number is
sent), but basically there's little that can be done.

To reiterate, the HEDIR list is a public list. What that means is that
it is listed among listservs. In fact, I believe you can request a list
of all listservs from the university of Georgia (that's the uga that
you sometimes see). It's important that HEDIR is a public list so that
people can find us (those that have a legitimate need), but we are also
vulnerable to junk mail solicitors.

As indicated several weeks ago, when our system is capable, I will
be editing all memos and forwarding those that are only health related
memos. I guess technically this is censoring, but I will not censor
any health related info, only the "junk mail". Until our system
here at SIU can do that we'll have to put up with it. I will say,
all these people need is ONE person to respond positively (in other words
buy something) to keep them going. If we all ignore them (not buy any-
thing) that will show them that e-mail is not the way to promote their
product. So, if you are concerned about receiving this junk, please
don't purchase anything from them (no matter how good it sounds).

Later....

Subject: Junk Mail Apologies

I have gotten several messages from list members who found that when they
tried to return junk mail to the sender it was sent back to them as
undeliverable -- creating, in effect, MORE junk mail. I'm sorry. I
consulted with the experts here at SIU and found that it is possible for
someone to "disguise their trail" or even access servers illegally to get
ads out to people. Given the dislike for junk mail, I can understand why
advertisers would want to do this.

The good news is that I found out it is possible to limit access to the list
to members of the list: only members could send mail out over the HEDIR.
Anyone trying to send mail to the HEDIR that was not a member of the list
would simply have their mail returned to them automatically. Another list
here at SIU was having similar problems with junk mail; the decision was
made to implement the more restrictive system and they report that it has
been very successful.

There are, of course, some good and bad points to adopting such a system.

Thanks, Bret

               "THE GINGRINCH THAT STOLE CONGRESS"
                        by Mike Corso
                         CNI Telecom

Every Rep down in Congress liked Clinton somewhat,
Except for Newt Gingrinch, who simply did NOT!
He hated Bill Clinton! He hated his wife!
He vowed to torment them the rest of his life!

The Ging hated anyone left of the Huns,
He hated the wusses who didn't like guns.
He hated the teachers who wouldn't lead prayers,
He hated the people who'd tax millionaires!
He hated "McGoverniks" whining 'bout rights,
Like equal protection for gays and nonwhites.

He hated the folks who said "Nicotine kills"
And vowed he would pass more pro-nicotine bills.
He hated the folks who said "Women need choice"
And vowed to give middle-aged males more voice.
        But he hated the people on welfare much more;
He hated the way they were POOR POOR POOR!

He hated the way they had no jobs at all!
This struck him as heaploads of GALL GALL GALL!
They also lacked training and day care. So what?
The Gingrinch announced he'd come up with a plot:
"Get off of Welfare! Get off today!
Or we will take all of your children AWAY!"

Now, no one knew what made the Ging such a meanie:
It could be because he was built like a weenie.
It could be because he had Donahue hair,
Or maybe because not much lurked under there.
But probably what most explained the man's life
Was the fact he abandoned his children and wife.

Yes, 'way down in Georgia, his wife lay near dead
Sickened with cancer, in a hospital bed.
He crept in to see her (they let him, of course)
And whispered, quite sweetly, "I want a divorce!"

He whipped out his pencil with something like zeal
And got down to work on his alimony deal.
And while she was whimpering he said, "By the way,
I'm leaving for somebody younger - hooray!!"

The Gingrinch's heart shrank two sizes that night.
And that may be what makes him so far Christian Right.

Now, the night before Congress the Ging hatched his plans:
From now on he'd speak for, quote, "Normal Americans."
Tax-slashers! That's what those "Normal" folks lov!
He'd take to the skies and dismantle the gov!

He jumped out of bed and he summoned his pet:
A Doberman Pinscher who once killed a vet.
        George was his name (as in Wallace, not Bush);
"Boy!" said the Gingrinch, "We're gonna whip tush!"

They flew to a soup kitchen, filled with sad "bums,"
Snatched up the kettle and stole all the crumbs.
They flew to a basketball game late at night
And shooed the kids out, to the dealers' delight.

They unplugged mass transit and cried "Buy a car!"
Then chopped down a forest and chomped a cigar.
What bliss! What fun! What downright glee!
What joy! What yuks! What great TV!

The next day the Gingrinch sat high above you
And looked down on Congress (as many folks do).
He wanted to relish the joy and the cheer
Of folks waking up to their first tax-free year.

        He waited and waited and waited some more;
He waited to hear them cry "Newt! Take the floor!"
He waited for kudos and champagne free-flowing,
He waited for trumpets on high to start blowing.

But instead of rejoicing and hoopla, etc.,
He heard a strange rumble that made his palms wettah

The people weren't happy, not happy at all!
They ringed 'round the Statehouse! They filled up the hall!
They groused and they grumbled and cried, "We're real mad!
We want all those costly old programs we had!

Give back our givebacks! Give back our pork!
Give back the stuff you walked off with, you dork!"
And the Gingrinch sat simply quite stunned at the sight
Of Normal Americans, not left and not right,

Who wanted clean air and wanted green trees,
Who wanted full coverage for medical fees,
Who wanted nice schools and streets safe to play --
They wanted it all - but just wouldn't pay!

And when the truth hit him, the Ging grinned a grin,
He laughed and he laughed till the tears ran down his chin.
The Clintons climbed up to the Dome, laughing too.
"Hee hee hee," Bill and Hill laughed, "Hoo hoo hoo!"

They laughed with the cheer that comes from within,
They laughed with the knowledge: You just cannot win.
The Gingrinch and Clintons now shared the same plight
Whatever they'd do, they could not do it right.

"Folks hate you," said Bill, "once you land in D.C.
But I've got a plan: Let us bond, you and me.
We'll work as a team, yes! That's my advice!
We'll listen and nod and make NICE NICE NICE!"

The Prez put his hand out, they hugged on the ledge...
And then that old Gingrinch pushed Bill off the edge.

                (With apologies to Dr. Seuss.)

     Greetings: Ellen Capwell

I read with great interest a memo dated 08/21/95 regarding CHES, that
you sent to SMTP. The memo was regarding a frustrated individual
dated Thursday Aug 17, 1995. I am also one of the frustrated persons,
having written to the National Commission several times requesting an
application packet to apply for CHES, and getting zero response. I
wrote in Feb. 95, and Oct. 95, with no action. I would greatly
appreciate any assistance/information you could render in this regard.
May be you have a certain level of "influence" that could be rendered
in a nice way to the people in charge.

     Thank you for your help.

Yes the idea is to include everyone who can improve the health of our
children. We have no intention of minimizing the part of any group who
may contribute to this effort. Physical Education should be a part of
the process, but only a part. I differ with Physical Education trying to
become **the** leader in CSHE when the role of Physical Education is so
limited when compared to the depth of preparation required of Health
Educators. Again, I do not think we s
