Greetings HEDIRS:
Another reminder if you are an Eta Sigma Gamma Chapter Sponsor or an ESG
student:
ESG will be hosting a Student Poster Session in conjunction with the
American School Health Association Conference in Albuquerque, NM, November
7-11, 2001.
As you await the arrival of your Winter-Spring issue of the "The Vision"
newsletter and the Student Poster Session form enclosed in the newsletter,
you might consider visiting the ESG website
<http://www.cast.ilstu.edu/newtemple/esg.htm> and downloading the submission
form. As snail mail seems to travel...well, as a snail might, it may be
more convenient to use the Internet.
I strongly encourage submissions! All submissions go through peer review,
and it is an excellent way to gain conference presentation experience!
Class research projects make great student presentation material!
Additionally, as the deadline for ESG Chapter and individual awards draws
near, you can refer to the award forms on the ESG website
<http://www.cast.ilstu.edu/newtemple/esg.htm>. Forms have past dates on
them, but the same standards apply for this year.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

health communication?
Billie:
I am sure others will give you more of the mainstream texts but you might also want to
consider, though a couple are HIV/AIDS specific
A CDC publication called "Applying Prevention Marketing" as a great secondary
"text" for your course. You have to hunt for the publication since it is a few
years old but the CDC Prevention Marketing website is at:
http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/projects/pmi/index.htm
If you are looking for a real practical manual, I do think Nedra did a good job in her
text: HANDS-ON SOCIAL MARKETING: A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE Weinreich, Nedra Kline. -- Thousand
Oaks, CA: Sage, 1999.
Finally, AED (www.aed.org) did a great job on another AIDS text, with an international
perspective called A World Against AIDS, Communication for Behavior Change. William Smith
is the lead editor and it is also a bit old 1993.

Hey Fellow Health Ed folks,
I'm working with a group in Sacramento that has been attempting a LHA model for the past
two year. The group started at 8 now down to 4 had about 20 hours of initial training,
work in apartment buildings and are volunteer. The agency wants to look at other models to
see if they can improve retention and impact. Does anyone have suggestions for folks I
could talk to about volunteer or stipended LHAs? Any suggestions for recent (after 1997)
literture on LHA's that I should be looking at. These LHA's are supposed to be working on
improving the health of children 0-8.
Thanks for your help.
