I have started in a newly created position of staff development coordinator
for our patient education specialists. I am interested in hearing from
anyone who has information or experience in conducting a needs assessment of
this type. Any good references to suggest? I would also like to hear from
anyone in this type of a position regarding the of responsibilities you
have.

I am teaching a general instructional methods course next fall (lecture
plus lab) for undergrad health education majors, and am searching for a
good basic instructional methods text. It does not have to contain health
education content. I'm hoping to find a text covering such topics as:
learning styles, multiple intelligences, brain-compatible
learning; lecturing; leading large group and small group discussions;
brainstorming, cooperative learning; simulation gaming; role-plays; using
AV/media; etc.

Any leads would be appreciated!

Focus Groups: Theory and Practice by David Stewart and Prem Shamdasani
(Sage Applied Social Research Methods Series) is a good text resource --
I've used it many a times in teaching and in practice.

Also, the American Evaluation Association's "Electronic Resources for
Evaluators" located at http://it.usu.edu/itrs/AEA/index.html contains an
extensive list of web resources on qualitative study and other evaluation
tools.

Kim - I would recommend Gilbert and Sawyer's book: Health Education:
Creating Strategies for School and Community Health. It is one of the few
methods books that combines more than one setting AND lists the broad range
and variety of HED methods that can be using in health education program.
You might also find Fodor and Dalis' book complimentary: Health Instruction:
Theory and Practice.
