Subject: MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT

There is some exciting news that I would like to announced. Effective March
30, 2001 the HEDIR and the American Association of Health Education (AAHE)
have formed a cooperative partnership. As of last Saturday, AAHE is now the
exclusive sponsor of the HEDIR. What does that mean?

As most of you know, the HEDIR has been operated by myself for nearly 10
years. Throughout these ten years, the efforts that I have been put into
operating the HEDIR has been a solo effort. Although I have received much
moral support, the amount of work needed was, at times, overwhelming.
AAHE approached me last year to see if there was some way to form a
cooperative partnership. Through it AAHE is able to provide some financial
support. In addition, it opens up an entire new arena for the HEDIR to
explore...a formal partnership with the largest health education
organization in the world.

The leadership of AAHE (Executive Director Becky Smith, the Board of Directors, and President David Birch) is working with its members to make the most of the
technology. One of President Birch's mission is to create a type of
'community' outside of its annual conference. The HEDIR is the logical
place to start to create such a community. The HEDIR is to a large extent
the only vehicle through which health educators from ALL settings can
communicate on a daily basis. In addition, it provides an opportunity for
all to be heard on a fairly level playing ground. Anyone who has sought
assistance from HEDIR participants knows what a strong networking vehicle
the HEDIR can provide. I believe the AAHE sponsorship will allow even more
assistance.

So what does this mean for the day to day operations of the HEDIR?
Nothing. The HEDIR will continue as is. It is owned and operated by
myself; as in the past, memos will not be censored; health educators can
continue to share their professional expertise.

What you will see is prominently displayed is the AAHE name--on both the
HEDIR letterhead and the HEDIR web page.

Thanks again for a great 9 years. You have made the HEDIR what it is...you
should be proud of yourselves and I look forward to a continued great relationship with you all.
