Dear HEDIR Friends:
Many health educators have mentioned to me that they would like to take a
computer course related to Internet Community Health Educaiton in the
Greater New York City area. Brooklyn College is again offering this course
this Fall related to online health education programming. The undergraduate
course is closed, but the graduate course HNS 777X is still open.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer the course as a
distance-learning course. We will be using a brand new 40-computer
multimedia lab funded by the National Science Foundation.
http://academic.brooklyn.cuny.edu/health/tomita/class/
The text for the course is still being revised. I will be rewriting the
computer procedures for PC. If you would like to take the course, you will
need to register soon.

The text that will supplement this course is, Doyle, E. and Ward, S. (2001).
The Process of Community Health Education and Promotion. Mountain View, CA:
Mayfield.
Thanks.
Mark

Bill:
Check out www.therunawaygame.org (also at .com). It's a prevention education
text about teen runaways. It's in the "make your own adventure" format and
readers live life as a runaway boy, making decisions about what to do next
at the end of each chapter. Depending on the choices they make, they can get
AIDS, STD's, become suicidal, develop addictions, etc. There are over 20
different endings. It's a great introduction to the issues of homelessness,
teen prostitution, teen sexuality confusion and overall teen mental health.
The text is available to read free online, so you could make a homework
assignment of it without requiring students to buy the book. The paperback
is also available from a non-profit publisher
(www.maydavenportpublishers.com).
I hope you find it useful.
