I am a member of the faculty at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold,
Maryland. I am working with the Department of Health and Physical Education
and the Tech Prep Program to develop new academic programs in exercise
physiology/kinesiology, health education and promotion, athletic training,
leisure studies/recreational therapy, sports broadcasting, sports
management, sports administration, and sports nutrition.
I have hit a "road block:" the Maryland Dept. of Higher Education needs
plenty of data concerning employment opportunities in these fields of study
before they can approve new academic programs. Most everything I find has
these areas represented in the broad category of "Other health care
workers/occupations." I am still working to find data/statistics on current
and future employment opportunities in these individual fields of study.
I also need information concerning the process governing the establishment
of these types of academic programs at four-year institutions. Where do
four-year institutions get their data to support the implementation of new
academic programs?
I would be most grateful for any information on these topics. I would be
especially grateful any information you could provide before tomorrow
(12/5-my next meeting on this process).
Thank you for your consideration,
Jenny Guthrie
