Hello-
I am looking for any information that supports high schools to be closed
during lunch time. What this means is that students are not allowed off
campus for lunch. We are finding many of our 9th and 10th grade students are
going off campus for lunch and coming back to class under the influence of
alcohol and other drugs. Does anyone have any information/ research that
supports campuses being closed during lunch hours for these grades?
Thank you

The International Parish Nurse Resource Center is located
in Chicago until January 1, 2001 then it will relocate to
St. Louis. I think the web-site is IPNRC.advocatehealth.com
You might also try the health ministries association. Just
key in hma or health ministries association into your
web-search engine.

The New England Division of the American Cancer Society is now accepting
applications for participation in a multi-year School Health Coordinator
Leadership Institute. Modeled on the National School Health Coordinator
Leadership Institute, this Institute is open to applications from the New
England states. The information is below.... feel free to forward to
anyone you think may be interested in applying:
It is with great pleasure that we extend an invitation to school health
professionals from Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire,
Vermont and Maine to apply for the American Cancer Society's New England
School Health Coordinator Leadership Institute that will be held in
Westminster, Massachusetts from August 13-16, 2002. (A kick-off will be
held on April 5 & 6, 2002 in Ogunquit, Maine. Information regarding this
event will be sent when applications are received.) The Leadership
Institute is founded on the belief that good leadership, provided by
well-prepared school health professionals, can make a significant
difference in the quality and support of coordinated school health programs
at the local level.
This professional development opportunity will help individuals strengthen
their leadership skills and set a vision for the Coordinated School Health
Program in their school and community. The American Cancer Society is
making a major investment in the attendees by underwriting expenses related
to attending the Leadership Institute. (The estimated value of this
professional development opportunity is well over $5,000.00 per
individual).
As a candidate you will be considered to become one of fifty participants
who will be selected from throughout New England to attend the Leadership
Institute. Applications for New England residents are available by
contacting the American Cancer Society and speaking with either Pauline
Norris at 1-800-952-7664 X 4651 or Kathy O'Connor at extension 4690.
Documents will be sent immediately and you will be notified of your
acceptance as soon as possible. Application deadline is January 11, 2002.
Thank you and please forward this information to others you think might be
interested.

This may seem like a strange request but, are any of you aware of Board
of Education policies that ban condoms (possession, distribution student
to student, educational demonstrations, etc.) Many thanks!

National Cancer Institute Seeks Nominations for the NCI Director's Consumer
Liaison Group
The National Cancer Institute (NCI), the federal government's primary agency
for cancer research, is seeking nominations for five new members of the NCI
Director's Consumer Liaison Group (DCLG) who will be appointed in July 2002.
The DCLG is a federal chartered advisory committee of the National Cancer
Institute (NCI). It consists of 15 consumer advocates who are involved in
cancer advocacy and who reflect the diversity among those whose lives are
affected by cancer. NCI brings together these advocates from many
communities to advise and make recommendations to the Director of the NCI
from the consumer advocate perspective on a wide variety of issues, programs
and research priorities. The DCLG helps NCI to develop appropriate
processes to identify advocates to serve on its program and policy advisory
committees, and it serves as a channel for consumer advocates to voice their
views and concerns. All DCLG members must be U.S. citizens.
NCI encourages nomination of candidates reflecting the diversity sought on
the DCLG. Nominations can be made by organizations, including
local/regional and national groups, or individuals, including
self-nominations.
