I have been asked to write an article for a magazine Outlook on Hispanics

in Higher Education, about whether or not there is a movement afoot on

college campuses to 'reverse political correctness.' The editors' read of

a 'bipartisan' organization called ACTA the American Council of Trustees

and Alumni, headed by Lynn Cheney (before she became Mrs. VP ... don't

know if it still is ACTAs head) and former Democratic governor D. Lamm of

Colorado. It purports to want to put an end to curriculum changes of the

60's and 70's (which initiated Women's Studies, Black Studies, Chicano

Studies, etc.) by imposing more strictly regimented curriculums anchored

by American History and Western Civilization courses; a resolution calling

for university trustees, state officials and administrators to require

students to take US History to graduate college passed both houses

unanimously last semester. They also plan to train college alums &

trustees (big donors) to get into the content area and therefore wrest

power away from faculty.

My question to you my Health Education colleagues and those at CSUMB...

has there been any movement on your campus to 'reverse political

correctness' in this format, or any other? If so, please tell me about it,

I can quote you or leave it anonymous and not even identify your school,

except for by size or maybe geography. Any other websites or places I

might get insights would also be appreciated. If you could forward this

e-mail on to any of your collegaues or administrators who might help me

fill in the picture I'd be very grateful.

As usual the deadline is imminent, so your immediate reaction would be

appreciated.

My name is Mitchell. My wife, Jody, and I live in Chicago, IL. I am a cost

The HEDIR Technology Seminar has been scheduled for a 9000 time slot held concurrently with AAHE in Cincinnatti. The seminar will be held

at the Regal Hotel (right next to the

convention center), at the Buckeye Room, on the fourth floor in the south

tower on Thursday, March 29, 2001. 230 p.m. to 400 p.m. If you are planning on attending AAHE, please make it a point to stop by. There will be 13 presenters who will be showing how they are incorporating technology into their instruction. The format will be slightly different than in the years past...each presenter will be showing their presentation on their own laptop...sort of an electronic poster session. You'll be able to move around and speak to each of the individuals regarding their efforts.

For those of you who will be attending AAHE in late March, be sure you mark down your calender for the 2001 Saluki Social. This year it will be held on Thursday, March 29 from 530 to 730 at the ROCK BOTTOM BREWERY. The Rock Bottom Brewery is located at 10 Fountain Square Plaza in downtown Cincy...just a couple of blocks from the Convention Center. For those of you who have experienced past Saluki Socials they are well attended with outstanding food. I realize that I'm a little bias, but I believe it's the social with the best food. The Rock Bottom promises to provide super snacks. Snacks are free...however it's a cash bar.

To all of those who saw the notice on the chair opening at SIUC and sent me

notes, please let me assure you that I am alive, happy and healthy. After 9

years, I am returning to full-time teaching. I thoroughly enjoy SIUC and

think it is a great place to work.

If you are thinking of becoming a chair or are one at a smaller institution

and are thinking of moving up in administration, I encourage you to apply.

this is a great job to meet either goal. We offer 5 degrees in the dept

between HED and REC. We have a great faculty, amazing staff, talented grant

folks, a VERY supportive dean and a strong group of alumni and students.

I know the short closing date may throw some of you off. But, please know
