HEDIR SPORT
I wonder why a clear opinion ( particularly a political position) is
quickly attacked on the HEDIR. The attacks strike me as PC posturing . By
that I mean, they beg the question, pretty much any question, demanding
evidence (which Mark has generously provided below) without:
1. providing "evidence" to the contrary
` 2. risking the clear statement of an
alternative position.
3. providing evidence for the unspoken
alternative.
Rather, it is the same old, passive-aggressive, sucker-punching, armchair
critic, homogenizing, PC notion that: a clear or strong position is an
"offensive" ,"incomplete" and '"Uniformed" position. My
concern is that
these discussions expend time and emotional energy, creating an impression
among participants that something was accomplished. After all was said and
done: much said, nothing done. Perhaps someone could provide a historical
review of the relationship between the most recent version (1980 to
present) of republican, conservative politics and public health/health
promotion/education. Now that would be a compassionate conservative public
service.
Does it matter if I agree or disagree with a particular position? Does it
matter if that is all I do? *see ans.
rick (flame me now) petosa
* no, yes.

It's good to know that the health education organizations are helping health
educators focus on this by offering their annual Advocacy Summit in February.
May I suggest that you all check it out - the way I get to it is through
<http://www.sophe.org/>www.sophe.org and see if this is something you'd
like to
participate in or perhaps even replicate locally. NJSOPHE has a wonderful
advocacy training programs any health education organization or health
educator
would be proud to call their own. I wonder how many professional preparation
programs teach advocacy in their methods courses. Hope more and more.
