With many universities starting up this week I wanted to give a brief
update to the HEDIR. We have had a very spirited conversation over the
past few days. I just want to clarify that no way did I think Nate
Crawford's comments were directed at Mark Temple in a negative fashion...I
thought he brought forth an interesting point.
Second, the HEDIR directory has been finally completed (well we are still
working on a few bugs here and there). If you would like to see it, go to
www.hedir.org, click the 'search' for individuals. Do a self-search...see
if the info is correct. If not, go to the HEDIR subscription link and redo
your info.
Third, last summer I proposed that we create a HEDIR page for people to
share powerpoint presentations and syllabi...since that time, only one
person has submitted anything. What sounded like a great idea (and had
great support) has been basically a flop. Perhaps one of the issues has
been that I've asked people to upload the files themselves. That may be
intimidating to some people. I have given those individuals the option to
send it to a special email account...if you find this idea worthy and
interesting please go to the HEDIR web page, click the info about the ppt
and syllabi web pages.
Enjoy the week!

Hello everyone,
I am trying to locate Dr. Ralph DiClemente. He used to be at the
University of Alabama at Birmingham, but left in 1998, and I do not know
where he went.
Does anyone have an email address, phone number or mailing address?
Any assistance will be appreciated.
Thank you,

HEDIRFolk,
The folks at the Brandeis University from which this originated are asking that NO e-mails
be sent to sarabande@brandis.edu any more. She was well-meaning but knew little of the
impact of starting one of these chain letters on the web and asking people to e-mail her
address. Evidentally, it's completely over-whelmed their computer system. Let's do our
part to not perpetuate the problem.
The struggle of Afghani women will need to be addressed in some other manner.

Selected HEDIR Folks,
Please stop writing to me and telling me the plight of Afghani women is real. I know it
is. That's what I posted! Re-read my message before kicking in my mailbox.
What I was trying to get across was that Brandeis University does not want any more
e-mails to the sarabande@brandeis.edu address. The source of this request is:
http://urbanlegends.about.com/science/urbanlegends/library/blafghan.htm?term Re-read my
post if I was unclear.
For those of you who are concerned about Afghani women and girls this report straight from
the US State Department might help set things straight. Visit

May we have a discussion on the *health educational* implications of these facts? Is there
something constructive we can do or at least learn from this?

I am looking to see if there is a training program for children who will
soon leave a residential facility into foster care or adoption to help
them make the transition into a family. My wife and I are fostering two
brothers [16 and 15] and having a great experience but feel that the boys
were traumatized by being dumped into our house the night before each of
them began their high school freshman year in two separate high schools.
We would like to help such children avoid this kind of experience in the
future [even though we had known one of the two boys for some eight
months before they joined our household.
I have worked professionally and academically for some 30 years in
maternal and child development and have worked with a couple of
residential facilities for substance abusing pregnant and post partum
women and their children. I had directed an inner city outreach program
for similar women with the workers coming from the community. By the
way, we also have a 35 year old and a 32 year old son [what spacing!].
