Just a few notes about the recent ad for the chair's position here at
SIU. The department has had wonderful administration for a long
time....starting with Don Boydston and Dale Ritzel in Health
Education. During reorganization in the early 90s Regina Glover was
selected as the chair of the newly merged department. She has done a great
job working with two hard working, diverse groups. The transition/merger
has been extremely successful. Both programs have respect from the
other; both strive for the common good of the student; and there is a
real sense of collegiality among the faculty. We are fortunate...we have a
very good working relationship among our faculty.

Carbondale is located in the southern area of Illinois where cost of
living, crime, and other typical big city problems are very low. Schools,
outdoor activities, and a real sense of community are the plusses of the
area. We are less than two hours from a major metropolitan area (St.
Louis); we are in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest which provides
a beautiful backdrop to outdoor activities.

Talk to those individuals who have been to Carbondale...almost all would
agree that it's a great place to live.

Hello Hedir Folks-

I have mulled over the selling of tobacco products in the University
bookstore for several days now and I would advise you to ask several
questions. First, will sales of tobacco products be clerk-assisted, if not
they are will be shoplifted by students and underage kids who visit the
University. Cigarettes are the number one shoplifted item in the nation.
Second, will the tobacco business offer the bookstore point of purchase
sales. If so, be ready to see Doral and Marlboro signs hanging about outside
the bookstore. Also, the tobacco industry is so nice, I am sure they will
offer the students baskets with tobacco labels on them for students to carry
their purchases around in.
Just my thoughts,

I am interested to hear your opinions on the issue of a University
selling
tobacco products in the University bookstore. There are some individuals
at my University seeking to block the sale of tobacco products in the
bookstore. Frankly, I have mixed feelings on this issue so I am posting
the question to the list for your input. Thank you.
