AAHE Research Coordinating Board Calls for Papers
2002 AAHE National Convention
San Diego, California

NOTE: REVISED DEADLINE: September 1, 2001

The AAHE Research Coordinating Board (RCB) invites researchers and
practitioners to submit papers to be considered for presentation at the
2002 National Convention of the American Association for Health Education,
in San Diego, California. Abstracts related to integrating research and
practice, research methods, and professional preparation research are
encouraged. Abstracts from practitioners and students are encouraged.
Student papers will be featured. Studies that have preliminary results are
acceptable for review but will be judged more rigorously than a completed
study.

The paper or poster must be presented at the conference by the author or
co-author integral to the paper; the paper must not have been presented or
published previously. Submission of papers is open to all irrespective of
their membership in AAHE. All program participants must register for the
Convention. Persons making contributed papers/presentations who do not
wish to register for the entire convention may register only for the day of
their presentation.

The AAHE RCB also encourages submission of abstracts for a one-hour
research symposium session. The session shall be organized by one
researcher who is responsible for coordinating at least two, and not more
than three presentations regarding a significant health education topic or
theme. The procedure for submitting an abstract for a symposium is the
same as for the regular research paper or poster except an abstract for
each presenter is required. The entire session is to last 60 minutes with
the last 10 minutes devoted to questions and answers.

Submission must be received no later than August 1, 2001. Submissions
received after that date will not be reviewed. Please be sure to address
each of the areas mentioned below. Because continuing education
credits/units are being pursued for the AAHE RCB sessions, behavioral
objectives must be clearly stated and a one-or two-page biography of the
individual(s) making the presentation at the conference are necessary with
submitted abstracts for a regular research paper or symposium but not for
poster session consideration.

Abstracts will be reviewed by a committee of the AAHE RCB in a blind review
process. All applications will be notified regarding the acceptance or
rejection of their submission on or before November 1, 2001. A stamped,
self-addressed reply envelope with one (1) original and three (3) copies
must accompany all submissions. No facsimile (fax) or electronic (email)
copies will be accepted. Only submissions adhering to these instructions
will be considered for presentation.

The submission must include the following:
1. Name of investigators and indication of which investigator will
present the paper.
2. Institutional affiliation.
3. Complete mailing address.
4. Email address and telephone number.
5. Presentation preference: 1) brief oral paper; 2) poster session;
or 3) research symposium.
6. Whether this is a student or professional presentation?
7. Type of presentation: 1) research study or; 2) research technique; 3
(skills
or
practice

8. A one page abstract with learner objectives (this abstract MUST not
exceed
one page). The
abstract needs to be on a separate page WITHOUT author identification.

Abstracts should be submitted to:

I have a grant from the National Institute on Aging to develop an internet
program to educate and support family caregivers* of persons over 50. As
part of the effort, we are attempting to survey caregivers who access the
internet to assess what kinds of training and support materials they would
like to see available on the web.

Participants will be paid $10 to answer a short (26 question) survey,
which takes about 15 minutes to complete. If you are interested, please go
to:

http://www.orcasinc.com/caregiversurvey for more information.

* "CAREGIVER" is very broadly defined for our study as anyone who feels
some responsibility for the well-being of an older adult. That could mean
providing hands on care and help, supporting family members who are
caregivers, or just calling regularly to talk to the care recepient or to
other family members about the care recepient's situation.
