Chocolate Rules
1: If you've got melted chocolate all over your hands, you're eating it too
slowly.
2: Chocolate covered raisins, cherries, orange slices & strawberries all
count as fruit, so eat as many as you want.
3: The problem: How to get 2 pounds of chocolate home from the store in a
hot car. The solution: Eat it in the parking lot.
4: Diet tip: Eat a chocolate bar before each meal. It'll take the edge off
your appetite and you'll eat less.
5: A nice box of chocolates can provide your total daily intake of calories
in one place. Isn't that handy?
6: If you can't eat all your chocolate, it will keep in the freezer. But if
you can't eat all your chocolate, what's wrong with you?
7: If calories are an issue, store your chocolate on top of the fridge.
Calories are afraid of heights, and they will jump out of the chocolate to
protect themselves.
8: If I eat equal amounts of dark chocolate and white chocolate, is that a
balanced diet? Don't they actually counteract each other?
9: Money talks. Chocolate sings.
10: Chocolate has many preservatives. Preservatives make you look younger.
11: Q. Why is there no such organization as Chocoholics Anonymous?
A. Because no one wants to quit.
12: If not for chocolate, there would be no need for control top pantyhose.
An entire garment industry would be devastated.
13: Put "eat chocolate" at the top of your list of things to do today. That
way, at least you'll get one thing done.
14: And my favorite: Before consuming any chocolate, first break it into
pieces. The process of breaking allows the calories

Some of you are familiar with the Adult Health & Development Program
(AHDP)/National Network Plan for International Health (NNIH)
periodically mentioned in this discussion group. Others on this list are
directors of on-going programs.
I have been encouraged to submit a grant that would fund the training of
college and university representatives in the California (priority given
to Southern California schools). I need to know if your
college/university (including 2-year colleges) is interested. If you are
a director of your AHDP you may wish to notify colleagues at other
schools. By the way I know that Mt. San Antonio College, and CS at LA
are interested.
The AHDP began in 1972. It is an intergenerational, service-learning,
interdisciplinary health promotion and rehabilitation program and
academic course (health education) at the University of Maryland at
College Park. 14 other colleges and universities make up the NNIH.
The crucial element of the AHDP/NNIH is that students and volunteers
(called "staffers") are trained to work on a one-to-one basis as
"friendly coaches" with older institutionalized and
non-institutionalized adults (called "members"). some members and senior
staffers have been involved for 16 years.
See our web site at: www.inform.umd.edu/AHDP
If awarded, the grant will fund a 1 1/2 day workshop for
Administrators in the fall 2002 to familiarize them with the Program,
and answer legal, academic, budgetary, and other questions. It will be
followed by a 4 1/2 day workshop in in the spring 2003 for faculty who
will direct their own AHDP. They will learn the theory and methods of
the AHDP. Travel, hotel, and per diem will be paid. Training will be
conducted in College Park. MD.
Sites that start up their AHDP within a year will receive approximately
$1000.00 to support technical assistance expenses. You will also receive
the Staffers, and Directors Training Manuals, and a descriptive
videotape. The AHDP staff and I are always available to provide
technical assistance by phone, email, or visit.
Sites must agree to fund their own AHDP, start up within a year,
establish it as an academic course, serve a diverse group of
students-"staffers" and older adult
"members" (making a special effort to recruit disabled American
veterans). AHDPs must be directed by full time faculty.
If interested contact me, and I will keep you informed if and when the
grant is approved.
In order to reduce the possibility of failure to start up, or attrition
once your program begins we will emphasize possible barriers, and what
we have learned from experience. For example, directing your AHDP should
be part of your academic load and not a volunteer effort, and you must
have strong support from your administrators up and down the line.

I am planning to submit a proposal to the American Journal of Health =
Behavior for a theme issue on Positive Youth Development. Carolyn =
Lafferty, a December graduate of Kent State University's doctoral =
program in Health Education and Promotion, will be assisting me a =
co-editor. The purpose of this email is to solicit potential authors =
and articles for the proposal. In order for the proposal to be =
considered, it must include the Guest Editors' selection of =
authors/articles. =20
=20
The American Journal of Health Behavior is the official journal of the =
American Academy of Health Behavior. The Journal seeks to improve the =
approach of health education, health promotion, and other =
multi-disciplinary health efforts by fostering a better understanding of =
the multidimensional nature of individuals and social systems as it =
related to health behavior.
=20
The objectives of the journal include: 1) to provide a comprehensive =
understanding of the impact of personal attributes, personality =
characteristics, behavior patterns, social structure and processes of =
health maintenance, health restoration, and health improvement; 2) to =
disseminate knowledge of holistic, multi-disciplinary approaches to =
designing and implementing effective health programs; and 3) to showcase =
health behavior analysis skills that have been proven to impact health =
improvement and recovery.
=20
Topics of interest for the potential theme issue include: developmental =
assets, protective factors, resiliency, social norming, and =
comprehensive community initiatives geared toward health promotion of =
children/teens. Articles can focus on adults (as promoters of =
developmental strengths) or youth. Of special interest are articles =
that address the connection between promotion of thriving indicators and =
reduction of health-compromising behaviors in youth; or theories of =
change in mobilizing communities around positive youth development. =
Articles should have a research and theoretical base. =20
=20
If you are interested in having an article considered for the proposal =
please submit the following information (maximum 150 words) to me by =
February 18th:
=FC Brief description as to why the article would be appropriate =
for a theme issue on positive youth development
=FC Objective(s) of the article
=FC Brief description of methods
=FC Brief description of results (if known)
=FC Brief description of conclusions (if known)
=FC Estimated date as to when article would be written and ready =
for initial submission
=20
As potential Guest Editors, Dr. Lafferty and I will select =
authors/articles to be included in the proposal. If the proposal is =
accepted, articles will be submitted to us for proofreading/editing, =
returned to authors for changes, then submitted to the Journal as which =
time they will undergo the blind review process, final editing, =
typesetting, and publishing.
=20
The Journal follows the American Medical Association Manual of Style and =
is indexed in Index Medicus (MEDLINE). For more information about the =
Journal and specific instructions for articles access the website at =

Does anyone know the whereabouts of Dr Lynne Robinson. I had completed
some field data collection for a project in 1999/2000 and am wondering if
it has ever been published. The last contact I had for her was the
University of North Carolina, neither her home email or campus email
addresses are functional. If you know how I can contact her, please reply.
(And yes, I have checked the HEDIR membership directory.)
Many thanks ...
