The International Electronic Journal of Health Education is now in its
fifth volume and remains an open volume...meaning that once a an article is
accepted it's published within days. Saturday, Dan Leviton mentioned his
recent article on horrendous death. Yesterday we released another article
by Brad Neiger and company from Brigham Young University on "Measuring the
Effect of a Tobacco Media Campaign Among Nonsmoking Children and
Adolescents"...a timely and very well written article.
The American Association of Health Education (which owns the IEJHE) is in
the final stages of taking over the publishing of the journal...until that
one can access the journal (www.iejhe.org) to look at these and past
issues. When you enter the web page click the Subject/Author index and one
can maneuver around the journal. This will bypass the userid/password
mechanism.
Once AAHE completes its take-over only those who are AAHE members or have
purchased a subscription will have access to the journal.

I find that one of the pleasures of writing for IEJHE is the latitude
permitted in terms of pages, speed in publication, and most importantly,
the topic. Too often real and artificial limitations inhibit the quality
of the message and its concepts.
Mark is to be congratulated for doing a fine job as editor.
Parenthetically, he neither owes me money nor is he a relative. The
compliment is unsolicited and sincere.

Re: Search for Student Board Member for the Society for Public Health
Education until November 2002
Sorry for any cross-postings.
Typically, the SOPHE president appoints a student representative to the
Board for a year. Because I think this is a wonderful experience, I would
like to extend the opportunity to as many students in graduate programs in
health education as possible. Thank you for distributing this to all
faculty for circulation in all Spring 02 graduate health education courses,
including, if possible, students who are off-campus this semester. An
earlier version this Fall did not get distributed as broadly as planned and
so this second and final call for student candidates for the position of
Student Representative to the SOPHE Board of Trustees is being issued. The
deadline is Friday, Feb. 22 at 5pm EST. All participants' names will be
forwarded to the co-chairs of the Students and New Professional Caucus of
SOPHE and to the coordinator of the SOPHE mentoring program.
I appreciate your help circulating the following announcement to as many
other faculty members and students as possible via listservs, electronic
fora,, and printed copies of this message in class, faculty mailboxes, etc.
I look forward to hearing from your school and thank you for helping spread
the word.
Best wishes!
