Please excuse the cross-postings
Help! I find myself at a dead end and need someone elses common sense!
I'm working with an urban school district who would like to administer a
comprehensive drug/risk survey to their students. Their goal is to
establish the results as community-based problems (rather than
school-based) so that they will have a broad foundation of support for
future programming. Their concern is that without parochial school
participation, any survey results will be seen as "those bad kids from the
public school."
The parochial high school for this community is in the neighboring district
so they are not able to use Title IV money as a leverage for participation.
A significant percentage, something like 20%, of high school students
attend the parochial school.
I did what I thought was a thorough lit. review looking for research
comparing use rates between public and private students and found nothing.
I was hoping to find some research that said use rates were comparable so
this community could say that it didn't matter that the private schools did
not participate, kids are kids and the results can be generalized to the
entire community. I've spoken to people at PRIDE and the American Drug and
Alcohol Survey; neither were able to provide any data.
Has anyone ever been in this situation? Can anyone provide any data or
insight for me? I'm also interested in what did NOT work if communities
have been down this slippery road before.
Thanks!

Fellow Health Educators,
Warren McNab and I have been given the opportunity to "make the case" to
our elementary education department in our college that a Health
Education content and methods course for elementary education majors
should be required in their degree / licensure program. To help make our
case, we are searching for the national rates of such a requirement in other
elementary education licensure programs. Does anyone "out there" know of
or have such information?
Any and all help with this search, or if you have additional
documented information that you think will help sway the elementary ed
committee charged with reviewing this request, would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

future endeavors. A search for a new executive director is underway.

I concur. Mark Kittleson obviously is the Bill Gates we have presently
around the academia but without the distraction of the dizzying lucre. Thank
God.
We can't heap enough kudos on him for his intelligence, his dedication to
the pursuit of excellence in whatever he puts his hand, his love for
selfless service to humanity as exemplified by the hard work he put
conceiving and baby-sitting to 'manhood' this gem of a professional edifice,
otherwise referred to as HEDIR.
Those of us lucky enough to pass through his hand as students at SALUKI saw
and experienced this total dedication to duty first hand and we will ever
remain grateful. Throw in the ready made, disarming smile for a good measure
and you have your man.
Leviton's compliment is proper albeit overdue
More grease to your elbow my Prof.
