Adelphi University in NY has a 3 credit requirement. The College of Mount St. Vincent in NY has a 1 credit requirement. SUNT Brockport may have a 3 credit requirement. Good luck. I'd love to see a compilation of your responses.

Herman Spencer Bush, a past president of the American School Health
Association and former chair of Eastern Kentucky University's department of
health education, died yesterday (January 28) in Richmond, KY, apparently of
a heart attack. He was 77 and retired from EKU in 1989.

I know many health educators knew and were influenced by Herman's work and
philosophy, nationally, but especially in his home state. He will be
greatly missed.

Thank you to those who responded to my request about health education =

This is not national, but our local health department starts bachelor =
prepared educators at about 34,000.

Within the last week I was asked, on short notice, to get health =
education salary information for our director. I had only a couple of =
hours. I contacted three schools in our college health region (I work =
in a college health setting) and spoke with the classification staff in =
their Depts. of Human Resources. =20

In addition, I obtained the latest benchmarking salary data from the =
American College Health Association (1997-98).

I didn't check federal sources.

Hope this gives you some leads.

Entry level Health Dept starting salaries in Michigan are in the low =

The starting salary for a bachelors degree health educator in a college =

Here at Humana in Puerto Rico the beginning base salary for a Health

I remember Herman very fondly, since it was he who appointed me to my first
term on the Editorial Board of ASHA, many years ago. Herman has left his
mark on this profession and, as was so aptly stated by Stu, he will be
missed.

You might like to check out the following article regarding the professional
preparation of elementary teachers in Ohio:

Ubbes, V.A., Cottrell, R.R., Ausherman, J.A., Black, J.M., Wilson, P., Gill,
C., & Snider, J. (1999). Professional preparation of elementary teachers in
Ohio: Status of K-6 health education. Journal of School Health, 69(1): 17-21.

Note: In a survey of 50 colleges and universities in Ohio, 40 institutions
incorporated health and pedagogy-related content in their courses for elementary
education majors. Since then, Ohio has gone to separate licensures for early
childhood majors (preK-grade 3) and middle childhood majors (grade 4-9). Health
education remains a multi-age licensure (preK-12).

Under a separate email direct to Dr. Regin, I will forward a copy of course
syllabi for three different courses at Miami University (Oxford, OH). Two health
education courses are required in the Early Childhood Program (preschool to
grade 3) and one is required in the Middle Childhood Program (grade 4 to 9)
within the School of Education and Allied Professions.
