In the wake of the events of 9/11, more than ever before it has been
recognized that there is a need for federally-funded health centers to be
fully integrated into their community's emergency management and disaster
response networks. The strong response by health centers in the areas
affected by the tragic events underscores that health centers have both the
experience and capacity to be effective participants in a disaster response
and can play an important role in assisting local providers in delivering
critical emergency services.
In response to the need of providing Health Centers in Wisconsin with the
resources to deliver and expand on the awareness of an efficient operational
emergency preparedness plan, the Wisconsin Primary Health Care Association
is working towards the development of an Emergency Preparedness Manual for
Wisconsin Federally Qualified Community/Tribal Health Centers. In this
manual, the Association would like to include, among other important
documents and resources, an effective process for completing a Community
Risk Assessment.
Any feedback, ideas, or information (which would include more than simple
check lists) involving Community Risk Assessments would be much appreciated.
Any recommendations, as far as speakers on the issue of Community Risk
Assessments, who have some experience or knowledge base in public health or
in Community Health Centers would also be appreciated. Thank you.
