Dean, College of Health, The University of Utah
The University of Utah invites applications and nominations for the
position of Dean, College of Health.
The College of Health is a vital component of the University of Utah Health
Sciences Center. It is comprised of the Departments of Communication
Disorders; Exercise and Sport Science; Health Promotion and Education; and
Parks, Recreation and Tourism; and the Divisions of Foods and Nutrition;
Occupational Therapy; and Physical Therapy. It offers baccalaureate,
masters and doctoral degrees in many disciplines serving approximately
1,300 undergraduate and 300 graduate students.
As a part of the Health Sciences Center, the College maintains
collaborative partnerships with the School of Medicine and the Colleges of
Pharmacy and Nursing to achieve an integration of research, teaching,
clinical practice and service. The University Hospital, Huntsman Cancer
Institute, Human Molecular Biology and Genetics Program, and specialty and
primary care clinics provide rich opportunities to achieve the College's
academic mission. In addition, the large urban setting in which the
University is located facilitates opportunities for key research and
teaching partnerships with numerous local school districts and other
community and governmental agencies and organizations.
The Dean is the chief academic officer and reports to the Senior Vice
President for Health Sciences. The College is seeking a visionary and
dynamic leader with a demonstrated record of program development, financial
management, sustained scholarship, and outstanding contributions to a
health related discipline. Additional requirements include
interdisciplinary team building, advancement of development activities,
sustaining the College's record of excellence in teaching, facilitation of
extramural research funding, and advancement of relationships with
community, business and government leaders. Candidates should have a
significant understanding of the fields included in the college with
credentials appropriate for a tenured appointment at the rank of
professor. Although experience in an academic Health Sciences Center is
preferred, candidates with experience in a non-health science setting are
also encouraged to apply.
Applications should include a complete curriculum vita, a statement of
experiences related to the above qualifications, and three professional
references. Application review will begin immediately and the position
will remain open until filled. The anticipated starting date is July 1,
2003. The University of Utah is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity
employer and strongly encourages applications from women and minorities and
provides reasonable accommodations to the known disabilities of applicants
and employees.
Nominations and applications should be sent to Richard J. Sperry, M.D.,
Ph.D., Chair, Search Committee for the Dean of the College of Health,
Office of the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences, University of
Utah, 175 North Medical Drive East, Salt Lake City, Utah
