I teach an intro undergrad public health class here, 270+ students per
semester. I am currently using Introduction to Public Health by Mary-Jane
Schneider. The students have consistently commented on how easy it is to
read and how straight forward it is, however it is a couple of years old. I
would be interested in hearing what others are using as their introductory
public health text for undergraduates and what they like about it?
Thank you for any suggestions.

The American Association of Health Education is proud to announce the final
transition of the newly acquired International Electronic Journal of Health
Education (IeJHE). Purchased in April of 2001, the IeJHE is the first, and
only, peer-reviewed health education journal that is entirely on-line. The
IeJHE will be open to all interested persons until December 31, 2002 at
www.iejhe.org
Starting on January 1, 2003, the IeJHE will be available only to paid
subscribers and members of the American Association of Health Education. The
past 18 months has been used to transfer and convert files to fit into the
American Alliance's information technology systems and to expand the
technology and international mission of the journal.
Created in 1998 by Dr. Mark Kittleson, Southern Illinois University at
Carbondale, the IeJHE was operated for four years with no official ties to
any health education organization. Under the auspices of the AAHE Board of
Directors, negotiations with Dr. Kittleson resulted in the sale of the
journal in April 2001. Dr. Kittleson has agreed to continue as editor for
the journal until April 2004.
The IeJHE is the second journal of the American Association of Health
Education. The American Journal of Health Education has existed as a peer
reviewed print-based journal since 1967 under several titles. Together, the
two journals are attracting manuscripts from throughout the world. The
mission of IeJHE has two primary areas of focus for articles:
1) International health education and promotion including articles that
focus on programs and research in countries outside the US and articles from
within the US that deal with immigrant populations or international outreach
activities such as study abroad programs. It is essential for authors to
demonstrate the relevance of the research or program being described to the
international health education and promotion community.
2) In the technology areas two types of articles are encouraged: a)
technology based health education and promotion programs, and b) articles
that are most effectively published using the technology available through
the Internet. Examples might include reports of computerized health
assessments or audio/visual intervention programs. Articles may be
accompanied by computer software, PowerPoint presentations, website links or
a/v streaming to demonstrate a technology based project or product. These
articles may originate from any geographic location and be on any topic,
however it will be essential for authors who submit a technology based
article to demonstrate the centrality of computer, Internet or other
technology to either the content or presentation of the article.
To submit an article, go to www.iejhe.org
