Pardon the cross posting. Thank you for your patience.
Friends,
As you may already know, the Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon will be held on
November 11, 2002 @ 1:00 P.M. At the Doubletree Hotel in Philadelphia, in
conjunction with the annual American Public Health Association meeting.
2002 Inductees are Alyson Taub, Bob Gold, Delbert Obertuffer, Larry Green,
Marshall Kreuter, and Murray Vincent. The official site of the "Hall" will
be at Temple University, Department of Public Health, Philadelphia.
Rather than read bios, vitas and resumes at the Health Education Hall of
Fame induction luncheon, I thought it would be more fitting to read YOUR
words, with your feelings and thoughts about our inductees and their life as
a friend, colleague, teacher, and/or health educator.
Was Bob your favorite teacher at SIU? Was it Bob who helped you buy your
first computer, showing you how to turn it on and off? When Murray took you
to that Teen Pregnancy Prevention meeting in Columbia, SC, back in 1975,
and the health educator drove his Harley into the hall, engine running, as
he passed out condoms, did that spark something in you? Was it Larry's
impact and outcome research and evaluation that got you interested in
planning with a plan? Was it Marsh's inspirational talk that got you
thinking about innovative approaches to community health promotion? Did
Alyson's quiet persuasion for the CHES motivate you to work harder to
promote the profession? Was it Alyson's creativity in Job Bank management
that helped you find a job? Was it that first edition of Delbert's book,
"School health education; a textbook for teachers, nurses, and other
professional personnel," that motivated you to advocate for school health
efforts in your school district?
Was it who they are, their kindness, commitment, and love that helped you as
a person?
Please share your thoughts with us as we celebrate the induction of our
first Health Education Hall of Fame members.
Please go to http://healthbehavior.com/halloffame.shtml to register. Please
take time to vote for the 2003 inductees. (If you have a nominee please
reply to this message with his/her name and web site, if any.)
The Health Education Hall of Fame is a łgrassroots peer recognition
organization˛ honoring outstanding professional contributions. "The Hall" is
based on the successful external marketing effort of the łGreat 100 Nurses˛
of Louisiana and North Carolina (also known as łThe Great 100;˛ see
http://www.great100.org/). It is outside the more typical honors provided
through professional organization. "The Hall" is intended to help promote
the Health Education profession to a wider audience.
Thank you,
Michael
