CDC and Drug Maker Aventis Explain How Flu Vaccine Will Be Distributed:
The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the president of U.S.-based influenza vaccine maker Aventis Pasteur explained today how they plan to distribute 22.4 million remaining doses of the Aventis flu vaccine Fluzone.

Senate Passes Bill to Give FDA Authority over Tobacco:
After House conferees stripped from a corporate tax bill a Senate-backed provision that would have given the federal Food and Drug Administration authority to regulate tobacco products, senators showed their displeasure by passing a hastily introduced bill of their own that gives the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority to control tobacco products in the same way that it monitors drugs.

House Agrees to Conference on Reauthorizing IDEA:
In one of its last actions before recessing for the November elections, the U.S. House of Representatives agreed October 8 to go to conference with the Senate on reauthorizing parts of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that have expired.
