Every apple, aspirin pill, and flax seed that enters our mouths is regulated by the FDA, yet tobacco companies have free range in producing and advertising a product that kills more Americans annually than any other controllable risk factor. For 2 decades, public health advocates have fought to authorize government regulation of tobacco products, and they need your Senator's votes! For more info see: http://lungaction.org/campaign/fdaregulation_clone/explanation
The Senate's FSC bill includes FDA regulation of the content and advertising of tobacco products. This means increased consumer awareness of the 4000 toxic chemicals (43 of which are carcinogenic) in cigarettes, restrictions on marketing ($11 billion/year) to children, and reducing faulty advertising such as claims that light-cigarettes are healthier than regular cigarettes.
The AHA has a free hotline 1-877-432-7841 that will direct you to your Congressmen. You can email your Congressmen through the following Legislative Action Centers:

There's a lot of current health legislation that deserves attention, but the FDA/tobacco company fight has gone on for too long, and a rediculous number of people have needlessly died. If you agree that tobacco should be regulated, please inform your Congressmen. Thank you
