Subject: FW: Nutrition and Public Health Course

I've been asked to forward this over the HEDIR. For more information, contact Avia Mainor at avia_mainor@unc.edu.

The CDC/WISEWOMAN Program and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention are co-sponsoring "Nutrition and Public Health, A Course for Community Practitioners".

This intensive 5-day course serves public health practitioners (both nutritionists and non-nutritionists) who work with populations with little or no access to health care services. Emphasis is given to nutrition interventions for low-income and minority women at increased risk for chronic diseases associated with dietary and lifestyle practices. The curriculum is designed for practitioners with a desire to learn more about planning and developing nutrition interventions at the individual, organizational, community, and policy levels. Nationally known faculty with expertise in public health approaches to healthy eating will teach both behavioral and environmental/policy nutrition interventions.

The course is scheduled for August 28-September 2, 2005 in Chapel Hill. The deadline for applications is June 1, 2005.

Curriculum and registration information are on the web at http://www.hpdp.unc.edu/nph/

Good Morning-

When listing manuscripts currently under review on one=92s vita, faculty activity report and/or tenure and promotion dossier, is it acceptable, appropriate, and/or necessary to list the name of the journal where the manuscript was submitted?

Subject: NCI Survey Assistance

Forwarding to HEDIR upon request.

Thank you so much for offering to send out a blurb to your members about our survey. We are hoping to reach health educators or health communications specialists. We will be asking their input in what topics and what format they would like to see data from HINTS, which is a biennial survey designed to collect nationally representative data on the American Public's need for, access to, and use of cancer and health information. We want to provide concise, easy-to-read one-pagers for professionals to use during program planning or health communication projects, and their input on the topics, format, and layout will be most invaluable.

We are planning to finish refining the survey in the next couple of weeks and will send over the blurb and link to you once it is complete.
We envision the survey will take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

Subject: News Media Request - time sensitive

From time to time I may be sending out an inquiry from news media - if you are an expert in the area they are seeking - or have such an expert at your institution/agency - I would appreciate hearing from you as part of the health education profession. Please see the requirements below.
Thank you

A "major daily" news program affiliated with ABC news is looking for a behavioral lab. The producers summary of what they are seeking follows:
"Any behavioral labs that might have studied how technology effects attention spans. how do they differ from children to teens, young 20 year olds and 50 year olds....how has multi-tasking possibly changed that....how has the iPod, gameboys, television, etc....changed attention spans (or not) from 20 years ago. Has technology made us lose focus?"
They recommend focusing on the first sentence -- labs that have studied how technology affects attention spans. The producer has indicated that they would expect to interview the expert at the lab they use, so they are looking for an actual laboratory in which to shoot the interview.
Responses you send will be screened and then if appropriate - forwarded "as is" to the producer, so please include your best summary of the lab and the expert and your contact information and the experts, if you so choose. Please do not just send an expert name without also providing some description of the lab. The producer has put a deadline of next Wednesday at 5P, so there is time to see what you have, although as always, producers tend to go for the first good choices that come in.
Please let me know if you have expertise and a lab that currently works on this issue Thank you.
