Subject: APHA Call for Abstract
The Alternative and Complementary Health Practices SPIG invites abstracts on
topics related to public health aspects of alternative and complementary health
practices for the 133rd APHA Annual Meeting to be held in New Orleans, LA from
November 5 to 9, 2005. Papers related to the 2005 Annual Meeting theme,
"Evidence Based Policy and Practice," are particularly welcome. Papers from
various perspectives are strongly encouraged, including clinical applications
and evidence, research trends, educational programs, prevalence and attitudes,
impacts on public health, health risks and benefits, economic factors, and
related policies. All abstracts must be submitted online at http://apha.confex.com/apha/133am/achp.htm
or http://apha.confex.com/apha/133am/oasys.epl no later than 11:59pm, February
7, 2005.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to the following alternative and
complementary health practices:
· Alternative Medical Systems including Ayurveda; Traditional Chinese Medicine;
Homeopathy; Naturopathic Medicine; Traditional Indigenous Healing Practices such
as Native American, African, Middle Eastern, Tibetan, Aboriginal, and other
Native Healing Practices
· Biologically Based Therapies including Herbal Therapies; Food as Healing
Agents; and Nutrition and Dietary Supplements
· Energy Therapies including Biofield Therapies (such as Qi Going, Reiki,
Therapeutic Touch, Chakra, and Energy Body Heuristics) and Bioelectromagnetic-Based
Therapies (such as the use of pulsed fields, magnetic fields, or alternating
current or direct current fields)
· Manipulative and Body-Based Methods including Massage; Osteopathic
Manipulation; and Chiropractic Medicine
· Mind-Body Interventions including Imagery, Meditation, Tai chi, Yoga;
Spirituality and Health, Self-awareness Practices, and Dance/Music/Art Therapies
· Other
Abstracts are judged on clarity of presentation, originality, methodology and
contribution to the field. Highest rated abstracts, based on blinded peer
review, are generally selected and placed in sessions according to the overall
program plan for that year. Abstracts may be submitted as a group. However, they
will be reviewed individually and will be placed in sessions, if accepted,
according to the discretion of the Program Chair.
