Subject: Update

Greetings fellow Health Educators.

As you know, last year I conducted a brief survey on services provided by the HEDIR. Among one of the issues was the fact that the HEDIR had paid advertising for jobs (operated through hpcareer.net). The large majority of the individuals who completed the survey believe that such advertising was appropriate and done in a professional manner. Although it is not my desire to have the HEDIR operate as an advertising list, the paid ads do off-set expenses and that is greatly appreciated.

I encourage you to consider using the HEDIR to advertise your jobs. The fee is reasonable, but what's really nice about it is the fact that you can post a job immediately. Although there are advantages to putting such ads via professional journals, the turnaround time is often a major issue (for example, if you had a job announcement available today, it might take you two or three issues to get it into a professional journal). Turnaround with the HEDIR depends on how quickly you can get to the advertising site
(http://www.hpcareer.net/hpc/employer/employerLogin.jsp?MemOrgID=10) and post your job.

Another point to remember is that there are over 1,500 active members on the HEDIR.besides informing these 1,500 I also found that interesting emails distributed over the HEDIR will be forwarded to approximately 4.5 additional people. There have been many times that somebody on the HEDIR received something that may not have been of interest to them personally, but they would often forward it to others.

Finally, among those that responded to the survey last year who did oversee a job, it was indicated that the HEDIR was a positive way to promote jobs.

Thanks for your continued support in making the HEDIR an incredibly value tool to communicate the needs, interests, and requests of the health education profession.
