As we prepare for re-negotiations of our union contract in the next year or so,
I would like to get input from individuals at comparable institutions regarding
your requirements for retention, promotion, and tenure. Western Illinois
University is a bachelor's/master's comprehensive university with about 13,000
students. Faculty in the College of Education and Human Services (and in the
Department of Community Health and Health Services
Management) teach 20-22 credits each year (10-11 credits each semester), engage
in scholarly activity, and provide departmental, college, university,
professional, and community service.
If you teach at a comparable university and are willing to share information
about such requirements, please contact me. I appreciate any input you can
provide.
Nancy

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
HARD TO TEACH TOPICS IN SEXUALITY
The Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) is
dedicating an issue of our journal, the SIECUS Report, to hard to teach topics
in sexuality.
We want to highlight lessons and activities that address sexuality-related
issues and topics that are often ignored, taught poorly, or prone to
controversy. In our experience such topics include condoms, pregnancy options,
safer sex, masturbation, gender identity, and sexual orientation, but we want to
hear from you about any difficult topic that you have addressed in a new and
innovative way.
We're looking for brief descriptions of activities, programs, or resources.
Please share your stories-tell us about the challenges you faced in tackling a
difficult topic, the strategies you used to overcome them, the activities you
implemented, and the wisdom you took away from the experience. Feel free to
share your lesson plans or any creative materials you designed as well.
Please email Martha Kempner, Director of Public Information, at mkempner@siecus.org
or call her at 212/819-9770, extension 324 by Friday, August 12.
We also hope that you will forward this request to other colleagues, post it on
your website, or mention it in your newsletter or other publication. SIECUS
apologizes for any cross postings.
Thank you!
