Greetings HEDIRites.
For those of you who will be attending AAHE in Chicago (April 12-16) I want to
mention two outstanding presentations are scheduled.
Michael Young, the University of Arkansas, is the AAHE Scholar of the Year and
will be speaking Friday afternoon-2:30 ish. He was selected from an outstanding
number of applicants. Many of you know that Michael has done some great research
on sexuality education programs.
In addition, Elbert Glover, West Virginia U, is the Alliance Scholar of the
Year. This is particularly impressive since there's probably only been 4 health
educators who have been selected as the Alliance Scholar. His presentation is
Thursday afternoon 12:30 and will focus on his tobacco research. As many of you
know, Elbert is one of the premier authorities on tobacco addiction and
cessation. He also has about 500,000 articles on the topic (ok, maybe not that
many). If you want to know what's happening on the cutting edge of tobacco he's
the man.
If you want to see what's happening, go to http://aahperd.confex.com/aahperd/2005/finalprogram/index.html
and you can type in a particular word or person to see when they're talking. OR,
better yet, go to http://aahperd.confex.com/aahperd/2005/finalprogram/AAHE.htm
to see what programs are being offered within AAHE. In addition, Illinois SOPHE
and Illinois School Health Association have been working with AAHE to provide an
overview of local health education initiatives.
Finally, I have consulted with the authorities in the State and have been
promised by them that we will have spectacular weather.
(and no, I'm not being paid by AAHE to promote this.:-) I would love to see a
great turnout for both of our scholars.
