Subject: using eportfolios

Hello, HEDIR members. I am developing an e-portfolio template for health education majors (either school or community) to use. Our university uses Portfolio, a secure web site at the University of Minnesota (U of M) for saving, organizing, viewing, and selectively sharing personal educational records. This system is available to students and alumni for life. It can be changed at anytime and shared with selected individuals. It supports documents and media (movies, etc.). The link to the ePortfolio tool is https://portfolio.umn.edu/portfolio/index.jsp
Check it out, if you'd like.

I thought I'd design the template for communityhealth majors based on the seven CHES competencies and I'm not sure what'll I'll do with school health as MN Board of Teaching standards are not congruent with AAHE/NCATE.

My questions for you:
What have you done with portfolios?
What has worked? What hasn't?
What suggestions do you have as I move into this development?
Do you think electronic portfolio will replace paper? How soon?
Should we start adding artifacts at the freshman level or wait until junior/senior year?
When should they be reviewed? By whom?

Just using HEDIR as a brainstorming tool. Thanks for your assistance. Georgia

Given all the controversies on the news this days regarding right to die, religion, moral issues and health issues, I am contemplating in developing an ethic in health education course for our master program in hl ed. I am know that some of you are teaching this type of course at your institution.
Would you mind sharing a syllabus with me?

Hope to see many of you at Chicago. Thanks,

Raffy

CHHCS News Alert - March 30, 2005

Children Are Doing Better, But Only a Little, Index Reports:
The 2005 Index of Child Well-Being, an annual report prepared by the Foundation for Child Development, finds that on some measures, including teen birth rates, violent criminal activity, smoking, and illicit drug use, American children are doing slightly better than they did in 1975, the base year for the index, but the health domain continues to decline as the result of steadily rising levels of obesity.
