Subject: Call for SOPHE's 2005 Health Education Student Award Nominations

CALL FOR HEALTH EDUCATION STUDENT AWARD NOMINATIONS

Nomination Submissions Must Be Postmarked By: Sunday, July 31, 2005

Each year SOPHE recognizes outstanding students for their contributions to health education and health promotion. 2005 Awardees will be honored at SOPHE’s 56th Annual Meeting on November 5th in New Orleans, LA.

Please take a few minutes to reflect upon your experiences in health education and consider nominating a deserving student for one of the following awards. While Nominators must be SOPHE members, a student nominee does not have to be a SOPHE Member.

• Graduate Student Research Paper Award. This $250 award is designed to foster quality graduate student research and provide a mechanism by which to recognize outstanding graduate students for creative and innovative research. Included is an award certificate, complimentary registration at the 2005 SOPHE annual meeting in New Orleans, the opportunity to present the research upon which the award is based at the annual meeting, and recognition of the award on SOPHE’s website and in its newsletter, News & Views.

• Vivian Drenckhahn Student Scholarship Award. This $1500 award provides support to both undergraduate and graduate level full-time students in their pursuit of educational and professional development in health education.

• SOPHE/CDC Student Fellowship in Unintentional Injury. This one-year fellowship is designed to recognize, assist and train graduate students working on research or practice-based unintentional injury prevention projects from the perspective of health education or behavioral sciences.
Included is a $1800 stipend for the student’s special project, one-year SOPHE membership, complimentary annual meeting registration, and an opportunity to display a poster about the project at the 2005 SOPHE annual meeting in New Orleans.

• SOPHE/ATSDR Student Fellowship in Environmental Health Promotion. This one-year fellowship is designed to recognize, assist and train students working on research or practice-based environmental health education/health promotion or environmental justice from the perspective of health education or behavioral sciences. Included is a $1500 stipend for the student’s special project, one-year SOPHE membership, complimentary annual meeting registration, and an opportunity to display a poster about the project at the 2005 SOPHE annual meeting in New Orleans.
