Colleagues,

Here's something disturbing that came in my email this evening. (Please read the message immediately following my signature.)

I went to the website <http://www.abercrombie.com> and found to my dismay that listed under the heading women's clothing, and humor tees, the company is indeed marketing irresponsible alcohol messages to young women.

If you are outraged, I encourage you to send the company a message. You can send comments by hitting the "contact" button on their webpage.

Subject: FW: Abercrombie and Fitch and alcohol marketing to youth

The following comes from a colleague of mine in Eugene.
I also want to draw your attention to "Beer Bangles" being sold at Urban Outfitters. The bangles are a bracelet similar to the Lance Armstrong Live Strong, but this version has 12 messages on 12 different colors sold in a set for $10.00; the messages are "smashed", "hammered", "wasted", "blitzed", etc.... all slang for inebriated. I couldn't find them on their website, but they are in the stores.

Subject: Abercrombie and Fitch and alcohol marketing to youth

Hello everyone,
I thought I'd let you know about the new line of fashion that Abercrombie and Fitch is selling to young girls.

Abercrombie and Fitch and alcohol marketing to youth: AF, a youth oriented clothing store is selling t-shirts with pro drinking messages. Check them out at www.abercrombie.com <http://www.abercrombie.com/> click on women, then short sleeve tees then on humor tees. Some of the messages are "Sotally Tober", "If you can read this you need another cocktail", "Happiness is a strong cocktail", Candy is dandy, Liquor is Quicker".

If you would like to lodge a complaint about this line of fashion, call the Abercrombie and Fitch customer service department at 888-856-4480. The Valley River store number is # 733; you can ask the customer service department for the AF store number near you so that if you want your coalition members to call, they can readily have the info available. Also, ask customer service for an escalation number, which will allow you to call back to track your complaint.

Our local television station was delighted to hop on this story.
Abercrombie and Fitch would not let them in the store. The news director bought a shirt (large) that was so small, only the whispiest blade of grass could wear it (but that's another story). The shirt said: "Don't talk with me yet, I haven't drunk enough".
Aargh!!
b.
