Hello,

Several people asked me to share responses to my question about where to locate information concerning salary comparisons of health educators in academia. Here is a summary of those responses:

www.salary.com - it shows 25th%ile: $43,279, Median: $50,297, 75th%ile: $57,598.
http://swz.salary.com/salarywizard/layouthtmls/swzl_compresult_national_HC07000162.html

Bureau of Labor Statistics data from Nov. 2003 SOC Code Number: 21-1091 Occupation Title: Health Educators Employment (1) : 45,520 Median Hourly: $18.32 Mean Hourly: $19.92 Mean Annual (2): $41,430 Mean RSE (3): 1.6 % from http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes_21co.htm

Some detail by industry and state is at
http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes211091.htm
Colleges and universities Number of HEs, 1,750, Mean $/hr $24.45, Mean annual $50,860 http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/naics4_611300.htm#b21-0000

Have you examined the Chronicle's database...granted it doesn't specify by department but it gives you a general idea.

Use this site (below) to check ALL faculty salaries...perhaps AAUP could "filter out" health educators...just a thought...hope you are well....much love to you.
Pete

The Association of Schools of Public Health publishes salaries in the schools of public health for social & behavioral sciences (including health education) by pvt vs public schools and rank.

AAHE/AAHPERD does not keep information on faculty salaries.

I am posting this for a colleague. Please reply/ask questions to Melody Wood, RN at WOODMK@dhec.sc.gov.

Ms. Wood is interested in unintentional injury prevention in children
0-14 years of age for a thesis. She has been reading about the racial/ethnic and socio-economic differences in injury risks in children. She is interested injury disparity due to lack of positive parenting. Could your refer her to information regarding parenting and unintentional injury and/or refer her to a safety evaluation tool to evaluate parental knowledge/attitude concerning child safety?

Thank you for your help,

CHHCS News Alert -- May 16, 2005

Retailers to Monitor Sale of Cold Medicines Used to Make Methamphetamine:
Many of the nation's largest retailers of cough and cold medications announced last week that they will take popular products such as Sudafed, Tylenol Cold, and Claritin-D off their shelves and put them back of pharmacy counters, where buyers may have to sign logs and produce identification before they can buy them.
