On March 24, 2006, Adelphi University will host the 5th Annual Partnerships in
Health Conference. This annual conference promotes the exchange of ideas and
research among professionals in health education and related disciplines in Long
Island and neighboring communities. Sessions run from 45 minutes to one hour,
with 20 to 30 participants attending each session.
Keynote Speaker
Linda Lantieri, an internationally recognized expert in social and emotional
learning, will be the keynote speaker. Currently the director of Project
Renewal, a Tides Center project, Ms. Lantieri is a Fulbright Scholar and the
founding director of the Resolving Conflict Creatively Program (RCCP) of
Educators for Social Responsibility.
Call for Proposals
We encourage you to submit proposals for presentations that address the
following topics:
Alcohol, Tobacco and Drugs
Assessment Tools and Strategies
Bias Education
Classroom Management
Conflict Resolution
Consumer Health Education
Diversity Education
Grief/Loss/Post Traumautic Stress
HIV/AIDS/Sexually Transmitted Infections Innovative Teaching Strategies
Nutrition Peer Mediation Service Learning Strategies Sexuality Education
Social/Emotional Learning Stress Management Violence Prevention

Hey all.
A member of our faculty will be teaching a class that is designed to emphasize
service learning as the centerpiece of the class. She is looking for a text that
might lead a student from theory to practice, setting the stage of what
influences behavior change but then also giving direction on how to do this at
the community level.
Any thoughts?

Tracking Metabolic Syndrome in Adolescent Girls:
"Metabolic syndrome"-a constellation of factors including abdominal obesity,
high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels, and high fasting glucose
levels-is appearing in both black and white adolescent girls, according to a
research report published in the November issue of the journal Pediatrics.
