The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Foundation and CDC's Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) are offering an opportunity for elementary schools in selected states to apply for mini-grants to improve the health of school children through physical activity and nutrition programs.

Made possible by a grant from Cargill and in partnership with the American School Health Association (ASHA), these grants build upon the School Health
Index: A Self-Assessment and Planning Guide (SHI), www.cdc.gov/HealthyYouth/SHI developed by CDC/DASH.

ASHA is seeking reviewers for the applications received from schools in response to this funding opportunity. If you are willing to volunteer to read and score 3 to 6 applications from schools that have identified projects to improve nutrition or physical activity programming for children in grades 6 and under through completion of the School Health Index, visit http://www.ashaweb.org/mini_grants.html and follow the link to Information for Reviewers.

Thanks for your assistance in sharing this information.

In a preliminary look at national birth data for the year 2004, the National Center for Health Statistics in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said October 28 that teenage birth rates declined last year, though at a slower pace than in any previous year since declines began in 1991.
