I am working on a project of trying to collect good web sites suitable for
middle and high school students to get additional information on any and all
health topics taught in health class. I would love to see any lists of your
favorites that are student friendly, from reliable enough groups that they will
not come and go quickly, keep up to date with current information, charge no
fees or memberships, and have a minimum of junk and advertising.
If there is enough interest, I will make the final combined list available on
HEDIR.
Thanks,
Ken Packer

Colleagues,
A number of people have responded to my call for uniforms and school supplies
for school children (Mobile residents and refugees from MS & LA). Most have
asked for more information regarding the types of school supplies needed and
details about where to send the donations. In addition to school supplies, the
school system is asking for WalMart gift cards that they can distribute to these
families. These can be used for uniforms, school supplies or other basic
necessities.
The Department of Occupational Therapy is serving as a collection point at the
University of South Alabama. A former university professor (Dr. Judy Stout) is
now serving on the school board- she is our contact.
You can send your donations to:
Dr. Marjorie Scaffa, Chair
Department of Occupational Therapy
University of South Alabama
1504 Springhill Ave. Room 5108
Mobile, AL 36604
Please include your contact information so that we may acknowledge receipt of
your donations. Dr. Stout has provided a list of school supplies needed by grade
level. The list follows the body of this email. The numbers after each item
represent the amount needed per student. You can create student packets and
label them by grade level, or you can simply donate a variety of items and we
will sort and package them here.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide. I imagine MS & LA have similar needs
but I have been unable to identify contacts in those states. If we get an
oversupply here in AL we will certainly see to it that they are transported to
the other school systems along the Gulf Coast.
