Hi all

Since global warming is a recurring theme on the list, I encourage those on this list to participate in or create a community/campus team as part of the focus the nation campaign

Focus the Nation Resolution

"Global warming presents a serious challenge to the well-being of both people and natural systems across the planet. Public and private policy decisions to be made in the next decade regarding global warming pland technology investments will have impacts lasting for generations. Therefore, on or around January 31, 2008, [institution], in conjunction with colleges, universities, high schools, and other institutions across the country, will hold a symposium focusing on " Global Warming Solutions for America". On that day, faculty are strongly encouraged either to incorporate a focus on climate change into their classes, or else travel with their class to attend either symposia programming related to their discipline, or a class offered by a colleague that incorporates a perspective on climate change. The symposium program committee will work with interested faculty to develop appropriate material for their classes, and to insure that throughout the day, diverse disciplines are represented in symposium panels and workshops."

Hi all. again. Clarification. This Is Targeting 2008 over a year from now. I know. It is a tad confusing and in reality I personally think the organization made a bit of a strategic blunder. The organization launched the initiative so early it was even before the Nov 06 elections. If November was indeed a Sea Change (many of us hope it was) then this campaign might actually morph a whole bunch between now and 08. Again, the thinking of the group is that quote "The symposia are scheduled for January 31st, 2008. The date falls in between the New Hampshire and Super Tuesday political primaries, and Focus the Nation organizers expect that with several million students nationwide discussing global warming solutions, political candidates and elected officials from all parties will join the dialogue. "

But a lot might happen between now and then. We will see how it plays out. I posted it so we could put it on our radar map.

Perhaps the nation's Health Educators would be willing to accept the

donation of "Inconvenient Truth" dvds that the National Science Teachers

Association turned down because they were afraid of losing funding from big

oil. Lucky us, we don't have to worry about the big oil albatross.

So what do you think AAHE? This would be a great way to make good news for

Health Education!

I love your idea and think that it would actually make a profound statement if the "Coalition" of National Health Education Organizations would take the leadership and offer to accept and distribute the DVDs. That is unless we have a stinking rotten albatross in our closet somewhere.

Know that you made my day. ; )

Maybe the Coalition of Nationa Health Education Organizations would be the ideal disseminator of these DVDs. It would give NCHEO visibility. It sue has never received an oil industry donations.
