Hedirs Residing near Fancy Farm, Kentucky:

Fancy Farm is a small village in the western part of Graves County, Kentucky (10 miles west of Mayfield on Kentucky Highway 80).. It has two distinctions of note. First, it made the Guinness Book of World Records for having the largest single-day church picnic in the world. Second, I was born in a sharecropper shack about a mile out of Fancy Farm, and worked, under the guidance of an aunt, in the "Ice Cream Parlor" at the Fancy Farm Picnic as a child and adolescent

There are a fair number of health educators residing in Bowling Green and other communities in Western Kentucky, Western, Tennessee, Southern, Illinois, Southeast Missouri, and East Arkansas. For all of you who have not made prior plans for Saturday, August 4, y'all come to Fancy Farm for the 104th Annual Picnic. You can feast on the best mutton, pork and chicken barbeque (see: hhtp://www.fancyfarm.net/bbq.html). I will pass up the Mascoutah (Illinois) Homecoming and be in Fancy Farm this year. Maybe we can set a record for number health educators participating in single church picnic.

If some of us need some continuing education credits, possibly the folks at Western Kentucky U. SIU, or another enterprising university in the neighborhood could set up a workshop for Friday afternoon or Saturday. The local school, which is operated by the Gravs County Public School District, could probably make a meeting room available for such a purpose. If a CHES CECH opportunity is offered by anyone, I will participate in it.
