NIH Marks Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day:
Noting the "increasing impact" of HIV/AIDS on women and girls in the United States and throughout the world, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in the National Institutes of Health
(NIH) called attention to today, March 10, as the first National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. In 2004, said Dr. Anthony Fauci, 27 percent of all AIDS cases in the United States occurred in women, compared to only 7 percent in 1985.
