HEDIR Members,
I strongly encourage you contact both of your senators today regarding funding
Function 550, which is a discretionary budget allocation increase for the Public
Health Services. Passing this legislation would mean that Congress would be able
to restore most of the budget cuts proposed by the President to chronic disease
prevention. I have typed a sample e-mail below for you to cut and paste should
you choose to. You can find a contact form or e-mail address on your Senator's
website at http://www.senate.gov <http://www.senate.gov/> . This vote today
(which should occur around 3 p.m. EST) could be the difference between restoring
FY 05 appropriations for the health education and public health sector and more
drastic cuts to our nation's health. Thank you for you support. Don

Dear Sentator [ABCXYZ],
I heard that the Senate is voting on the Specter-Harkin Amendment to increase
Function 550/discretionary budget allocation for our Public Health Services
today. Please encourage Senator [ABCXYZ] to vote YES to the amendment. The
additional funding will allow our Public Health Agencies to get money back into
[YOUR STATE] for public health and health education programming that is crucial
in preventing so many diseases and health risks that our state experiences. =20
