The Greater New York Society for Public Health Education, celebrating its 40th anniversary and Kingsborough Community College and the Brooklyn Borough President's Office present

Finding Your Inner Leader:
An "Aha!" Conference for Aspiring Community and Public Health Leaders

Friday - Sunday, July 21-23, 2006

Early Bird Pre-Registration deadline: June 30, 2006
Final Pre-Registration deadline: July 14, 2006

Kingsborough Community College
2001 Oriental Boulevard
Brooklyn, New York

What is this conference about?

Identifying and motivating the next generation of leaders in community and public health to lead the fight to reduce health disparities and to respond to the public health workforce crisis of imminent retirements.

Getting potential leaders "into the leadership pipeline" NOW - not when they're already in appointed leadership positions...usually with minimal training.

Establishing a network of future leaders for ongoing support.

Providing a springboard to additional future public health leadership training programs across the country!

Attendees will discover

. Your leadership "right stuff"
. The wealth of ways in which your leadership is wanted and needed
. Ideas and directions for acting on your leadership aspirations

The conference will focus on three aspects of leadership:

. Developing individual leadership capacities and versatilities
. Being an effective leader while working within group and
organizational contexts
. Working across boundaries to stimulate change and solve problems at
the community level

Registration information will be available shortly at:

Please feel free to forward this information!

Thanks.

Hello everyone!
I have never had the opportunity to go to a conference/continuing education opportunity that wasn't FREE or nearby. However, I may have a chance soon (as in, my employer may cover things for me finally!).
So, I need some help--please refresh my memory as to the conferences/continuing education opportunities that are tailored to health educators (specifically worksite or community health promotion) that will be occurring between June and October.

Thanks so much!

Greetings HEDIRites…

I hope you have a relaxing Memorial Day weekend.

One of the things that I like about the HEDIR is that there are not too many directives (basically no advertising, no personal communiqué)…and as a result you have handled yourself in a most professional manner. I’m on a lot of ‘listservs’ and despite our occasional ‘flare ups’ the HEDIR is by far the most active and professional list I’ve seen. So with this in mind I have to share a concern that I have…please do not misconstrue this as being directed to just one or two individuals…

I’m concerned about how many people have their emails configured to return a message to the HEDIR indicating that they are on vacation and not available. Now, I realize it is important to alert your private emails that you are not available, but it becomes quite a nuisance to receive them over the HEDIR. First, I don’t know how that can be done…I’ve configured the HEDIR system so that one must compose a new email (in other words, one cannot reply back to the HEDIR by clicking ‘reply’)…yet we get several indicating they are not available. Now, I can accept the fact that when I send a HEDIR message (this one for example), I will receive back to my personal account at least 15 messages indicating that the person is not available. Yes, I can accept this…but it will be interesting to see how many of these ‘non-availability’ messages come back directly over the HEDIR—and that is what I’m concerned with.

I am asking that if you have an auto-reply to your email system while you are away, could you check with your technology people to see if you can configure your system to ‘ignore’ messages from the HEDIR? Also, starting on Tuesday, May 30, if I see an auto-reply indicating that a person is not available sent over the HEDIR, I will send them a brief memo alerting them that this message was sent (they may not even know that their system is doing this). In addition, I will ask them to contact their tech person to see if they can stop it from coming over the HEDIR.

Again, my thanks to all of you for making this a very active, professional list. Hope you all have a relaxing, long weekend.
