As a fellow health educator in Texas, I congratulate Steve Dorman on his impending appointment to the position of Dean of the College of Health and Human Performance, University of Florida. Steve is returning from the "land of the armadillos and aligators" to the "land of the 'gators". Those of you who were in Salt Lake City for the AAHPERD Annual Convention probably learned this news.

How many health educators are in positions of dean or higher in universities? The following come to mind:

Deans

Steve Dorman - Florida (August 1, 2006)
Guy Parcel - U of Texas -School of Public Health (Houston) Bob Gold - Maryland Kelli McCormack-Brown - South Florida Jeff Brandon - New Mexico State Larry Olsen (Associate Dean) - New Mexico State Audrey Gotsch - UMDNJ Glenn Gilbert - East Carolina

Past Deans

Noreen Clark - Michigan
Pete Cortese (Associate Dean of Allied Health) - Cal State at Long Beach Ralph Boatman (Allied Health) - University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill John Lamb - East Tennessee Elixabeth McMahan (Graduate School) - East Tennessee Elaine Vitello (Allied Health) - Southern Illinois Don Breckon - Central Michigan Barbara Cramer (Allied Health) - Texas Woman's Thomas Dunye (Allied Health) - Jackson State (MS)
Note: I have forgotten the name of the former dean of allied health at Memphis State U, which is now the University of Memphis.

Presidents

Jim Rosser - Cal State at Los Angeles
Andy Sorenson - South Carolina

Former Presidents

Don Breckon - Park College (Parkville, MO)
Note: I have forgotten the name of the one from Maine.

Please add to this list. I know that I have overlooked some.

Among the current health educators who are deans is Paul Sarvela. Dr. Sarvela took over from Elaine Vitello (Allied Health) at Southern Illinois.
