Hello
Does anyone have any information/data/facts that I could use Thursday, when I meet with the administrative team, to justify why we shouldn't use recess as a discipline, or why sitting for 80 minutes isn't healthy for our kids without a stretch break?
I know that this is last minute but anything would be great!

Bonjour à tous,
Please share this information with your graduate and undergraduate students. This past summer, I had students from five universities other than my own university who participated in the program. This made for a great classroom experience. I hope to have students from other universities enrolled in my program during the summer of 2007. I also had a waiting list for the second year in a row. There were students from my university who were accepted but placed on this waiting list. Thus, interest in the program continues to grow.
The program will be held June 8
– July 16, 2007. The program is limited to18 students and is taught in English.
Previous years have included seminars at international and European organizations such as:
1) The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria
2) Doctors without Borders
3) U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees
4) Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS)
5) International Labor Organization (ILO)
6) The World Health Organization (WHO)
7) Centre Régional d’Information et de Prévention du Sida (CRIPS)
8) The International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE)
9) The United Nations Headquarters (UN)
For an application and cost information:
<
www.units.muohio.edu/eap/departments/phe/phe.htm>Click on "Study Abroad" and to download application and cost information.
In the past three years, students from 13 universities have enrolled in the program. These universities include: Boise State University, Bowling Green State University, The University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health, Duke University, Illinois State University, Indiana University Department of Applied Health Science, Iowa State University, University of Minnesota, Duluth, the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center College of Public Health, Pitzer College of the Claremont Colleges, Rice University, St. Norbett College, and St. John’s University.
Thank you to those colleagues who shared this information with your students. Many of the students from the universities above learned about the program from you.
Merci beaucoup,
Reginald

I think this is counterproductive. I would not list kissing (deep or otherw=
ise) as a risk behavior. There is a point of prevention fatigue where peopl=
e start thinking everything is a risk and then become numb to prevention eff=
orts. Likewise while the mutual masturbation and =E2=80=9Cfingering=E2=80=
=9D referenced below involve bodily fluids and thus may pose some theoretica=
l risk. To my knowledge there are no documented cased of infection by this=20=
mechanism. Even if there were, it gets back to the likelihood being lower t=
han that of being struck by lightening while being attacked by a shark.
=20
Even when discussing oral sex =E2=80=93 I discuss the risk as being low and=20=
requiring direct access to the bloodstream (i.e. open sore. Cut, etc) Saliva=
is an unfriendly host to the HI virus and certainly it could not survive GI=
fluids -thus I also endorse swallowing ;-) But I would rather have the foc=
us be on an open wounds, cuts etc (in the mouth hand or any other body part=20=
exposed to fluids). I do know a guy who got infected engaging in what he th=
ought was safe sex. He had just shaved his genitals (as part of foreplay) a=
nd had the guy cum on him. Unfortunately he had nicked himself in the proc=
ess and provided a pretty direct route into his bloodstream. So should we i=
nclude shaving as a high risk behavior?

Below is copied directly from the CDC website on HIV and kissing. CDC
agrees closed mouth kissing on the cheek is not a risk.
But reading further the CDC recommends against open mouth kissing. I am
not sure of their definition of open-mouth kissing, but in the MMWR
article deep kissing is called "deep kissing" so I assumed (maybe
incorrectly so) that open-mouth kissing is not necessarily a deep tongue
kiss.
=20
ALSO, WHERE DO MASTERBATION by a partner and FINGERING FIT ON THE
CONTINUUM since there are body fluids involved?
=20
Can I get HIV from kissing? =20
En Espa=C3=B1ol
On the Cheek:
HIV is not transmitted casually, so kissing on the cheek is very safe.
Even if the other person has the virus, your unbroken skin is a good
barrier. No one has become infected from such ordinary social contact as
dry kisses, hugs, and handshakes.
Open-Mouth Kissing:
Open-mouth kissing is considered a very low-risk activity for the
transmission of HIV. However, prolonged open-mouth kissing could damage
the mouth or lips and allow HIV to pass from an infected person to a
partner and then enter the body through cuts or sores in the mouth.
Because of this possible risk, the CDC recommends against open-mouth
kissing with an infected partner.
One case suggests that a woman became infected with HIV from her sex
partner through exposure to contaminated blood during open-mouth
kissing.

Not sure kissing should be on the "less risky" end as opposed=20
to just plain "no risk."
Any documented cases via kissing?
I prefer to concern students with known modes of infection...
