HEDIRs Interested in the O. J. Simpson issue:
We in Texas are familiar with the several court cases that found Cullen Davis innocent of murdering his daughter and his wife's lover, as well a shooting his wife and his daughter's boyfriend. Cullen was represented by the infamous lawyer, Richard "Racehorse" Haynes. Few familiar with rich man's justice in our country were surpised that Cullen Davis could spend $10 million to buy his court decisions. We were aware that many rich white men had been able to circumvent the court system to get the favorable decisions they sought.
Prior to O. J. Simpson, it was extremely rare for a person of color to be able to achieve a "not guilty" verdict for murder in a criminal court in the good ol' USA. In fact, folks in the South did not believe this was possible. With his celebrity status and a sympathetic jury, O. J. did the impossible.
Now, I am unaware that any of the rich white men found innocent of murders and other heinous crimes have been able make new wealth directly from a book and televised interviews about how the crimes were performed. Rich white men being found "not guilty" are too common. It is the fact that a man of color was able to buy rich man's justice that makes it feasible for O. J. to profit in this way. On the other hand, I am familiar with a number of convicted white criminals using the noteriety of their criminal status to increase their wealth. Several of President Nixon's Watergate team have done this and are continuing to do so. Martha Stewart seems to be making pretty good income following her conviction for stock investment fraud. It seems that in our good ol' capitalistic system many bad people can can profit from the bad things they have done.
Will I watch interviews and buy O. J.'s book about how the murders were performed "If" he did them? No!!!
Will I spend my time trying to get the captalistic system to stop rewarding O. J., Martha Stewart, John Dean and other former members of the Nixon team, and other previously convicted criminals. No!!! I have better things to do.

The Bush administration has appointed a new chief of family-planning programs at the Department of Health and Human Services who worked at a Christian pregnancy-counseling organization that regards the distribution of contraceptives as "demeaning to women." Eric Keroack, medical director for A Woman's Concern, a nonprofit group based in Dorchester, Mass., will become deputy assistant secretary for population affairs in the next two weeks, department spokeswoman Christina Pearson said yesterday.
Keroack, an obstetrician-gynecologist, will advise Secretary Mike Leavitt on matters such as reproductive health and adolescent pregnancy. He will oversee $283 million in annual family-planning grants that, according to HHS, are "designed to provide access to contraceptive supplies and information to all who want and need them with priority given to low-income persons

Breaking the silence - Ending the Isolation - Changing the story
"We must re-imagine, re-define, and re-create equity at the crossroads of the social justice and ecology movements, of business and activism, of spirituality and social change, of local and global activism. And if we can do that, we won't be taking America back. We'll be taking America forward. Let us begin" ----Van Jones
