We sent this out earlier over the HEDIR. Just a reminder, if you would like to help this student it would be greatly appreciated. If you have already completed it, I’m sure Doctoral Student Chen is most appreciative.

Subject: Health Promotion and Genetics/Genomics: A SURVEY

During the last two weeks, I have sent you two e-mails regarding an

important dissertation study I am conducting. The purpose of my dissertation

study is to learn health educators' views regarding their roles in

genetics/genomics. Other health professionals, such as nurses,

nutritionists, social workers, epidemiologists are actively involved in the

area of genetics/genomics. It's very important that health educators' voices

be heard by other health professionals.

The comments of health educators who have already responded include a

variety of beliefs and concerns regarding health educators' roles in

genetics/genomics. I believe the results are going to be very useful to

guide future genetics/genomics training for health educators.

I am sending you the on-line survey again because your input is extremely

important: It's only by hearing from nearly every health educator chosen to

participate in this survey that I can assure the results are truly

representative. As this is an anonymous survey, your name can never be

connected to your response. In addition, you have the opportunity to win

$50.

Please take 15-20 minutes of your valuable time to complete this survey by

clicking on the following link,

http://www.zoomerang.com/survey.zgi?p=WEB225Q636UTDC  ,or copying and

pasting it into your browser. If you have any questions regarding this

survey, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for helping my dissertation by completing the on-line survey!!! I

really appreciate your help with my research.

Sincerely,

Lei-Shih

Fellow Health Educators,

I was informed last week that key administrators at Texas Woman's University decided to terminate my employment with this fine institution effective May 31, 2006. Over the next seven months, I will be sorting the professional nuggets of value in my professional library from the discardable items. Among the materials in my collection are (a) a complete collection of the SOPHE Monographs/Helath Education Quarterly/Health Education and Behavior (some of which were previously owned by Lucy Morgan and Ruth Grout), (b) a complete collection of Health Promotion Practice, (c) 30 year collection of the Journal of Health Education (AAHE), (d) 30 year collection of the Journal of School Health, and (e) a number of other documents of historical significance to health educators.

My preference is to pass these along to Texas Woman's University alums and junior faculty who report to me a desire to possess them and vow to care for them in the future. Dr. Yasenka Timp gets first dibs on the complete collection of the SOPHE Monographs/Health Education Quarterly/Health Education and Behavior. Yasenka was the first doctoral student I advised from her admission into the Ph. D. in Health Education program at Texas Woman's University through defense of her dissertation. Others interested in other journal collections or desiring a list of available documents of historial interest to health educators can email me at wcissell@twu.edu.

Colleague,

You may have received this if you have been involved with CDC Goals recently. The purpose of the meeting is to obtain input on objectives for a new set of public health protection goals that CDC is developing to meet changing health needs in the 21st century. By attending this meeting, you will have the unique opportunity to help CDC achieve greater health impact and reduce disparities. There are going to be four local community meetings related to the Goals process (Oakland, CA; San Antonio, TX; Boston, MA, Little Rock, AR). Meetings will be held in 4 cities across the country.

Cities and dates of meetings:

Oakland, California, October 14, 2006

San Antonio, Texas, October 21, 2006

Boston, Massachusetts, October 21, 2006

Little Rock Arkansas, November 4, 2006

We are inviting you as well as other leaders of local organizations from many sectors, including public health, medical care, business, education, philanthropy, and communities of faith, to participate. We encourage you to bring others who may have an interest such as your faith leader, local teacher, member of your homeowners' or housing organization, or your employees.
