Dan, Ansa and others.

I would like to add to the thoughts that have already been expressed about what we (that is the Public Health discipline) can do related to global warming.

1. As a profession we are in a unique position to be able to promote the extensive research base that exists and more so debunk the psuedoscience being fuded by Exxon Mobil and others. Indeed it was over a year ago when Mother Jones did the most extendive piece following the money from the oil industry to the junk science(1). There is a new database for tracking the money flow from industry to science at Center for Science in the Public Interest(2)

2. As professionals we can get engaged in the responsible science movement. I recently posted a link to the Scientists and Engineers for America(3), which is one group trying to reclaim science and the Union of Concerned Scientists(4) is an older and more established organization. A third resource is the Coalition to Protect Research(5) although this appears to be less active.

3. Stay politically engaged Nationally. One way to do that is to track the politcal and science website of the Committee on Government Reform Minority Office, United States House of Representatives(6). The act on what you learn. Think and ACT Global.

4. Stay politically engaged Locally. Lesa gave a great example of how Portland, OR is leading the way and like it or not, Califonia is leading the way(7). For those in other states and cities two groups can help you locate who's doing what in your city including the Center for Climate Strategies(8) and the Cities for Climate Protection(9)

5. Make it personal. Whether it is installing Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs in your home or other more dramatic steps to reduce your ecological footprint, each one of us has a part to play. There are some great online tools to help you figure out how to walk lightly and how to get involved (10, 11, 12) ===
