HEDIRs:

Does anyone know where I can find out the answers to these 2 questions?

How many advertising images is the Average American exposed to on a daily basis?

How much do American businesses spend/year to advertise their products? (I have ~ $236.4 billion from the Miller & Stafford text, Economic Issues for

Consumers) but have not been able to find anything more recent on the web.

Thanks.

Hello Colleagues,

Is anyone aware of studies on health coaching outcomes? I'm conducting a literature sure for a large number of physicians who are interested in exploring the benefits of utilizing health coaching in their primary care practice settings.

Any information you can provide or direct me to would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Jacqueline Rubino, MPH, CHES

Susan -

Sarah Lewis, the Health Marketing Manager here at the Arizona Department of Health Services responded to my forwarded inquiry on your behalf ....and see below for her comments:

As far as the marketing expenditures by American businesses each year, I have heard a wide variety of figures spent, depending on industry, economic health, business cycles, etc., so that can be difficult to pin down.

However, the figures do seem to be pretty consistent as to number of messages received by the average consumer per day. The total? An astounding 3,000 - I have heard up to 5,000, but I wonder if this is a total used for propaganda by advertising agencies. (As a way to convince clients that they really do need to use their particular, off-the-wall creative.) Here's an article for more information on this topic, although it is a year old now:

http://www.usatoday.com/money/advertising/adtrack/2005-06-19-cannes-box_x.htm

I think health education can draw more expertise from commercial marketing to facilitate behavior change than is the standard practice today. After all, how many Americans own a pair of Nike shoes or drink Pepsi on a regular basis?

I hope this helps.
