Good afternoon HEDIRites!

On behalf of the AAHE Student Involvement Committee, I would like to invite colleges and universities with health education/science/ promotion programs to consider registering a team of undergraduate students for the 2007 AAHE Undergraduate Case Study Competition. In its inaugural year, 2006 Salt Lake City, the competition saw seven schools compete in this new and exciting opportunity, with first place going to a student team from the University of Northern Iowa.

After many, many discussions with participants, advisors, members of the Student Involvement Committee, Board members (you name it!) the committee is actively designing the criteria and case for this years competition at the AAHPERD Convention in Baltimore.

For those unfamiliar with the competition, schools may register a team of 2 or 3 undergraduate students to the national convention to compete. SPACE IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 8 TEAMS INDICATING AN INTEREST IN COMPETING. On the wednesday morning of the convention student teams meet with the organizers of the competition, receive guidelines and the case. They then have 48 hours to work independently on a "solution" to the problem. The "case" will be some type of community health issue--last year was an influenza outbreak. The case will require students to integrate theory, practical programmatic ideas, community organization, and creativity to design their plans. On the Friday of convention, student teams present their "solution" to a panel of experts in the field. Teams are awarded points, and the winners announced at the assembly of members.

It was incredibly exciting to advise the team of professionals that designed this event, and even more exciting to watch our next generation of health professionals rise to the challenge. I believe most everyone connected to the event felt the same. I hope you will consider organizing a team of students and joining us in Baltimore.

To register, contact Linda Moore at AAHE offices: lmoore@aahperd.org.

If you'd like additional information regarding this years competition, contact Chair of the Student Involvement Committee Mary Jane Tremethick, mtremeth@nmu.edu, or feel free to contact me.

REMEMBER: space limitations at the convention mean we can only accept the first 8 teams to indicate interest! Hope to see you there.

I'd like to follow this up briefly. Last year Karl (and many others) worked hard to make this a success...and in all ways it was extremely successful.

This is a great way to bring your students to a national meeting and to let them put into practice what they have learned.
