If any of you have an overall Alcohol and Drug Policy that includes Tobacco, that would be helpful too!

The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) is partnering with CDC= and DHHS to host a 1 =BD day workshop for health educators on Crisis= and Emergency Risk Communication for Pandemic Influenza, on September= 20-21, 2007 in Chicago, IL. Whether or not you are formally working as= part of an emergency response team, all health educators need to have= some level of training and preparation for pandemic flu or similar publ= ic health emergency. Your knowledge and skills in the behavioral, organ= izational, and communication arenas provide a tremendous advantage in= a crisis and can be brought to bear in three essential areas: 1) preve= nting further illness, injury or death; 2) restoring or maintaining calm= ; and 3) engendering confidence in the operational response.

Up to 100 travel scholarships will be awarded to health educators to par= ticipate in the workshop. Scholarships will cover the cost of travel,= lodging, and registration for the workshop. This workshop will provide= fundamental training in emergency risk communication theories, techniqu= es and outreach that can be applied to pandemic influenza planning and= response. National communication and health education experts will lea= d the training, and provide case examples of the role of health educator= s in emergency preparedness and response. CHES credits also will be pro= vided.

All workshop participants will be enrolled in a new "National Health Edu= cation Surge Capacity Network". Network participants will receive regul= ar updates of public health emergencies, be expected to share alerts wit= h key constituencies, participate in periodic conference calls, and shar= e technical advice in health education as needed. =20
