Echoing Billie, I have always said to my kids that reading is the most powerful magic in all the world.

I know summer has just begun for many so this might be late.

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Need I say more.

2. If you liked Tipping point, you will love Linked: The New Science of Networks ISBN 978-0452284395

3. The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community ISBN 978-1887208079 While it is sometimes a droll read it provides a whole bunch of important thinking.

4. On my reading list is Bill McKibben's new book Deep Economy: The Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future ISBN 978-0805076264

Here is the future which we have all long imagined - a future in which America's moral leadership once again makes us strong and secure. A future in which the gulf between the haves and have-nots is fading because we are actively working to lift our fellow human beings up from poverty. Where every American has health care. Where America leads the world in creating a new global economy powered by clean energy. Where women around the world enjoy the same opportunities as men. A future in which we recognize that our security is not just measured by our military might, but by our ability and determination to build a more peaceful, more prosperous, more stable world. - johnedwards.com

I'm reading Doris Kearns Goodwin's historical novel "A Team of Rivals,"

which is the account of how Abraham Lincoln included in his cabinet men who

were his political rivals. It is particularly refreshing in light of the

current administration, which has done the absolute opposite.

It is amazing how having alternative points of view may influence the

ability to make informed, thoughtful decisions during times of intense

conflict......
