Hi listmates,
As far as I can follow it does not appear that these messages were meant for the entire listserv. They appear to be personal messages mistakenly broadcast on a public forum. As a member and an advocate of and for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities, I do empathize and see how this response could be deemed offensive. Nonetheless, might these postings be a mistake?
How easy is it for an "out of office" reply to be posted on the listserv?
Regards,
Nicholas

AAHE Collaborates with Adventure Cycling Project
=20
On May 29, 2007 the first group of cyclists completed the entire 2000 mile Underground Railroad Bicycling Route.. This bicycle route memorializes the Underground Railroad, a network of clandestine routes by which African freedom seekers attempted to escape for many years before and during the Civil War. The history of this remarkable period comes alive as you pedal along the corridor that traces the Underground Railroad route from the Deep South to Canada. The route was developed by the Adventure Cycling Association in partnership with the Center for Minority Health at the University of Pittsburgh.=20
=20
The project is fully described at
http://www.adventurecycling.org/ugrr/index.cfm =20The leadership of AAHE decided to actively support the development and utilization of the trail at the invitation of the Center for Minority Health because AAHE fully supports the goal of promoting lifelong health through cycling as a form of physical activity available to people of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds. "The challenge to eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities requires implementation of interventions that are scientifically sound and culturally appropriate,"
said Dr. Stephen B. Thomas, CMH Director and Philip Hallen Professor of Community Health and Social Justice at the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public Health. "Cycling is an excellent way to meet the national recommendation for physical activity. Unfortunately, far too few African Americans have embraced the recreational cycling movement; cycling organizations must increase their outreach efforts to minority communities."
AAHE Past President Randall Cottrell and Executive Director Becky Smith have served on the Underground Railroad Cycling Trail Advisory Board for the past 2 years.=20

Award-winning Sun Safety Educational DVD's Now Available=20
=20
As entertaining as they are informational, The Sun Show DVD's are ideal for elementary school classrooms. Students will identify with the Sun Show's hosts and field reporters, themselves children, in this pair of videos that simulate two episodes of a live television morning show. In a variety of attention-grabbing short segments, the news team uncovers the darker side of sunlight and reveals simple strategies for protecting our skin from those dangerous UV rays. Punctuated by clever surprises, some hilarious animation, an original score, and hit song clips, viewers will find these sun safety lessons very enjoyable to learn.=20
=20
To ensure accuracy, Jeff Ashley, M.D., a dermatologist, and Andrew Manthe, Chief of the Skin Cancer Prevention Program at the California Dept. of Health Services, co-produced the DVD's with a panel of consultants that included several educators and Ms. Linda Rutsch, Director of Sunwise at the US EPA. Accommodating both the lower and upper elementary levels, two versions are offered: The Sun Show - Ages
6-8 and The Sun Show - Ages 9-11, each with a teacher's guide included.

Hazard Communication Program & Exposure Control Plan online
Compliance Publishing Corporation, a publisher of employee safety compliance information, has released the only program that allows institutions and companies to create, modify, and publish their OSHA required Hazard Communication Program, and Exposure Control Plan completely online.
Every workplace contains chemicals, many of them hazardous. In order to ensure chemical safety in the workplace, information must be available about the identities and hazards of the chemicals. OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) requires the development and dissemination of such information in a Hazard Communication Program. OSHA estimates that tens of millions of workers are at risk of occupational exposure to blood or other bodily fluids that may include human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and others. The creation of an Exposure Control Plan is vital for preparedness to reduce the risk to their employees.=20

I'm sending this out again in hopes that we might get a few more responses. If you are a faculty member or state employee who does health education consulting in addition to your academic work, you could answer this BRIEF questionnaire. (Everyone could use some extra BSU clothing, right?!?) LR
Dear Colleagues:
My name is Megan Keating and I am a graduate student at Boise State University. I am writing an informational article on health education consulting and I would greatly appreciate your input. Please respond to the questions below in regard to health education consulting. You may skip any questions that you are uncomfortable answering, or stop participation at any time without penalty. Once you have completed this VERY BRIEF survey please send it to keating.megan@gmail.com. In addition, if you could please forward this original message to any health education consultants you know, it would be extremely helpful. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
