Spring 2008 Office of Health Informatics Graduate Assistant -- Job Description

 

A. General summary: Please summarize in three or four sentences the

general purpose, scope, and responsibilities of this position: _Supports

undergraduate students enrolled in an online health education course(s),

contributes to course maintenance and updates, and other duties as

assigned by their supervisor for 20 hours a week. _

B. Specific Duties: Please list in order of importance, and in detail,

the duties assigned to this position and estimate the percent of time

given to each duty over a period of time. The percentages must add up to

100%, including "other duties as assigned." Essential duties are why the

job was created. They are the basic chores or tasks that must be

performed by any incumbent, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Provides outstanding customer service to undergraduate students in

online courses. These courses are assigned prior to the beginning of the

semester. Must listen to lectures for the assigned course and become

thoroughly familiar with content in order to update the test; proctor

midterm exams and final exams throughout the semester. Needs to be a

valuable resource to students taking the course.

suggestions as how to update the course and create learning

opportunities for undergraduate students.

The American Journal of Health Studies invites original =

contributions in the field of health education and promotion. The =

American Journal of Health Studies (AJHS) publishes feature articles, =

literature reviews and commentaries on the history, principles and =

philosophy of the practice of health education and health promotion. =

Manuscripts submitted to AJHS must fit in this broad area of emphasis =

with a focus on the process of health education and those historical and =

philosophical concerns that influence the practice of health education =

and health promotion. The process of health education and health =

promotion is reflected in the responsibilities and competencies for a =

Certified Health Education Specialists (www.nchec.org =

<http://www.nchec.org/> ). Some topics of interest for AJHS include but =

are not limited to:

* Historical events and markers in health education and health promotion

* Philosophical underpinnings of the profession

* Health behavior theory related to health education and health =

promotion

* Planning models and protocol (PRECEDE/PROCEED, PATCH, CBPR, etc.)

* Program evaluation protocol and methodology

* Advocacy for health education and health promotion

* Marketing and social marketing activities in health education and =

health promotion

* Professional preparation of health education and health promotion =

specialists

* Governmental and legislative influenced on health education and health =

The AJHS is closely linked to the Virtual Academy: A Living History of =

Health Education project. The Virtual Academy is a digital archive of =

the thoughts of key leaders in the field of health education and health =

promotion. Submitted manuscripts are reviewed by three members of the =

Editorial Board in the double blind peer review process with the =

understanding that they have not been submitted for publication =

elsewhere. =20

Feature Articles: Feature articles are limited to a length =

of 30 pages, including tables, figures, and references. Manuscripts in =

this format can include reports of empirical research, critical reviews =

of the literature on a specific topic, and a discussion of professional =

practice issues in health education and promotion. =20

Practical Perspectives: These short articles, limited to 10 =

pages, are designed to be "how to" or "how we did it" articles for the =

health education and health promotion practitioner. Manuscripts are =

sought on health promotion topics inherent within the school, community, =

hospital, university, or worksite settings. Whenever possible, authors =

should include practical guidelines, checklists, and key suggestions. =20

Commentaries: Commentaries are designed to allow expository =

writing on contemporary issues and concerns. Length should not exceed =

10 pages.=20

Manuscript Submission Requirements

=20

Manuscripts to the American Journal of Health Studies are =

accepted in electronic forms only (e-mail attachment). Manuscripts =

should be typed, double spaced, and on 8 =BD X 11 inch paper with 1 inch =

margins. Page restrictions identified above include footnotes, =

references, tables (<4), figures (<4) and illustrations. Specific =

requirements are discussed below. =20

First Title Page: This page should include: 1) main title =

not exceed 80 characters including spaces; 2) author names, degrees, =

and institutional affiliations; 3) corresponding author's mailing =

address, phone and FAX number, and internet e-mail address. =20

Second Title Page: This page should include: 1) main =

title; and, 2) an abstract of no more than 100 words. And all author =

identification should be removed.=20

References: References should conform to the Publication =

Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th Edition). Below =

are examples of entries for a journal article, a book, and chapter in an =

edited book. =20
